FTP CAT5e adds an overall aluminium-polyester foil around all four pairs plus a tinned copper drain wire, with the jacket left off. It is the middle option between plain UTP and fully braided S/FTP: enough shielding for cable trays that run beside power cable, without the cost of a braid. Core OD is about 5.2 to 5.8 mm and the construction is built for CPR-classified production in European markets.

How It Is Produced And Checked
Conductors are insulated in HDPE and colour-coded, twisted into pairs with lay length controlled pair by pair, then shielded with foil and where specified a braid. Electrical performance is verified against the published limits before the core is reeled. The jacket is not applied.

Working With It On Your Line
- Keep the drain wire in contact with the foil through the jacketing head — a displaced drain wire fails continuity testing later.
- Avoid sharp reverse bends; creased foil loses shielding effectiveness at the crease.
- Check foil overlap on a cut sample from each drum before the run.
- Ground the drain wire at one end only in the finished installation guidance you supply.
