Semi-Finished Coaxial Cable RG7

Trunk Grade Foamed PE Core for CATV Backbone Cable

Product Overview

What This Product Is

RG7 sits between RG6 and RG11: a larger conductor and dielectric than a drop cable, but easier to handle than full trunk cable. Loss is around 4.2 dB/100m at 100 MHz over a 5 to 1000 MHz range, which is why it is specified for CATV backbone runs and commercial RF distribution. Supplied as a core, it goes straight onto your jacketing line with the shield configuration you ordered.

Key Benefits

What It Gives Your Production Line

Backbone Performance in a Workable Size

Low attenuation over long runs without the handling penalty of the largest trunk constructions.

Full CATV Band Covered

A 5 MHz to 1000 MHz range takes in return path, forward path and satellite IF distribution.

Shield Built to Order

Standard foil plus braid, tri-shield or quad-shield, with braid coverage from 40 to 95 percent.

Coils Sized for Project Work

Typically 500 m or 1000 m per coil, wound on wooden or plastic reels and film-wrapped.

Application Scenarios

Where It Is Used

  • CATV backbone and main distribution lines
  • Satellite TV systems
  • Commercial-grade RF transmission
  • Long-distance signal distribution
Who It Is For

Who Buys It

  • Cable plants supplying CATV network builders
  • Manufacturers who jacket to project-specific fire ratings
  • Exporters who need a mid-size trunk core in stock
Problems It Solves

The Reasons Buyers Move To This Product

Signal Budget Runs Out Mid-Span

Drop-grade cable loses too much over a long backbone. RG7 buys headroom without moving to the heaviest construction.

Foamed Core Capacity Is the Bottleneck

Foaming lines are the constraint in most plants. Buying the core moves the constraint off your floor.

Every Project Wants a Different Jacket

Unjacketed cores let one purchase serve indoor, outdoor and fire-rated finishes.

Manufacturing And Quality Control

How It Is Produced And Checked

Production runs from conductor preparation — rod drawing, annealing, stranding and surface cleaning — through foamed insulation extrusion with controlled cell size and on-line diameter monitoring, then foil wrapping and braiding to the shield specification ordered. The line stops before jacket extrusion.

  1. Conductor Preparation

Rod drawing, annealing and surface cleaning so the insulation bonds without microvoids.

  2. Insulation Monitoring

Insulation thickness and concentricity monitored continuously on line during extrusion.

  3. Shield Verification

Foil overlap and braid coverage checked against the ordered shield construction.

  4. Electrical Spot Check

Impedance and attenuation sampled against the published values for the construction.

  5. Reel Packing

Reels wrapped in plastic film against moisture and dust, then cartoned or palletised.

Customisation Options

What Can Be Changed

  • Conductor grade BC, CCA, CCS or CCAM
  • Shield depth: standard, tri or quad
  • Braid material and coverage
  • Coil length
  • Shrink-wrap or carton outer packing
Use Guide

Working With It On Your Line

  • Set the pay-off brake for a heavy coil so the core is not stretched at start-up.
  • Preheat the core if your jacket compound needs it — adhesion on foamed PE depends on a clean, dry surface.
  • Watch coil transition points; the outer layers of a 1000 m coil unwind faster than the core layers.
  • Log attenuation spot checks per reel for project documentation.

FAQ

Semi-Finished Coaxial Cable RG7 FAQ

Where does RG7 sit between RG6 and RG11?

Attenuation is about 4.2 dB/100m at 100 MHz, lower than RG6 and close to RG11, with a conductor and dielectric sized between the two.

What frequency band is it specified over?

5 MHz to 1000 MHz, covering the CATV return and forward paths and satellite IF distribution.

How is the core supplied?

On wooden or plastic reels in 500 m or 1000 m coils, wrapped in protective film against moisture and dust.

Can I order copper foil instead of aluminium?

Yes. Both aluminium and copper foil are available, on standard, tri-shield and quad-shield builds.

What does a 500 m reel weigh?

Approximately 18 to 22 kg, varying with conductor and insulation specification.
