Indoor Installations
PVC is the most common jacket for both coaxial and LAN cable indoors: low cost, flexible and flame retardant. Where fire safety matters in enclosed or public areas, LSZH replaces it because it emits low smoke and no toxic halogen gas during a fire.
Outdoor and Buried
PE and HDPE are preferred outdoors for their moisture and UV resistance, with HDPE tougher and mechanically stronger than standard PE. For direct burial, PE is used with water-blocking elements such as flooding gel or tape.
Harsh and High-Flex Duty
PU and TPU offer excellent flexibility with oil and abrasion resistance, which suits industrial environments. TPE is soft, flexible and eco-friendly, and is used for high-flex or handheld devices.
High Temperature and High Frequency
FEP and other fluoropolymers are used for high-end coaxial cable, offering high-temperature, chemical and UV resistance. These are the compounds processed on a fluoropolymer extrusion line rather than a standard one.
Fire Standards
Flame retardant formulations can be made to meet UL 94 V-0, IEC 60332 and other fire safety standards. The compound is only half the answer — the finished cable classification comes from testing the finished construction.
