Semi-Finished Coaxial Cable RG8

50 Ohm Core for High Power RF and Radio Transmission

Product Overview

What This Product Is

RG8 is the 50 ohm heavy RF core: solid conductor, foamed insulation and the shield configuration you specify, with the outer jacket left for your line. A maximum operating voltage of 1900 V RMS and a DC to 1 GHz working range put it in two-way radio, base station feeds and industrial high-frequency links. Manufacturers order the core when the finished cable has to carry their own jacket compound, colour and branding.

Key Benefits

What It Gives Your Production Line

Rated for High Power Work

1900 V RMS maximum operating voltage suits transmitter feeds and repeater systems rather than signal-only runs.

Low Capacitance for Efficient Transfer

Around 86.6 pF/m keeps loading low on long RF feeder runs.

Velocity Tuned by Dielectric Choice

Propagation velocity of 66 to 80 percent depending on the dielectric, with foamed PE at the higher end.

Reel Lengths for Assembly Shops

300 m, 500 m or 1000 m reels, with custom labelling or project branding on request.

Application Scenarios

Where It Is Used

  • Two-way radio transmission
  • Antenna and base station connections
  • RF and microwave signal transmission
  • Industrial high-frequency communication systems
  • Repeater systems in data and voice networks
Who It Is For

Who Buys It

  • RF cable assembly shops building antenna feeders
  • Manufacturers supplying radio and broadcast integrators
  • Plants that jacket and connectorise 50 ohm cable in-house
Problems It Solves

The Reasons Buyers Move To This Product

50 Ohm Volume Is Lower Than 75 Ohm

Few plants can justify a dedicated 50 ohm foaming run. Core supply covers the orders you would otherwise decline.

Assembly Work Needs Clean Cores

Connectorised assemblies fail when the dielectric is deformed or the shield is contaminated. Film-wrapped reels arrive ready to strip.

Jacket Colour Identifies the Brand

Buying unjacketed keeps jacket colour, print and compound entirely in your control.

Manufacturing And Quality Control

How It Is Produced And Checked

Production runs from conductor preparation — rod drawing, annealing, stranding and surface cleaning — through foamed insulation extrusion with controlled cell size and on-line diameter monitoring, then foil wrapping and braiding to the shield specification ordered. The line stops before jacket extrusion.

  1. Conductor Preparation

Rod drawing, annealing and surface cleaning so the insulation bonds without microvoids.

  2. Insulation Monitoring

Insulation thickness and concentricity monitored continuously on line during extrusion.

  3. Shield Verification

Foil overlap and braid coverage checked against the ordered shield construction.

  4. Electrical Spot Check

Impedance and attenuation sampled against the published values for the construction.

  5. Reel Packing

Reels wrapped in plastic film against moisture and dust, then cartoned or palletised.

Customisation Options

What Can Be Changed

  • Conductor and braid material
  • Shield depth and braid coverage
  • Reel length 300 m, 500 m or 1000 m
  • Plastic, ABS or wooden reels
  • Custom labels or project branding
Use Guide

Working With It On Your Line

  • Strip test a short sample before production — foamed dielectric strips differently from solid PE.
  • Keep reels upright in storage so the core does not flatten against the flange.
  • For high-power assemblies, confirm braid coverage on the reel label; coverage drives shielding effectiveness.
  • Wrap cut ends immediately to keep moisture out of the dielectric.

FAQ

Semi-Finished Coaxial Cable RG8 FAQ

Why choose RG8 over a 75 ohm core?

RG8 is a 50 ohm construction intended for RF power, antenna feeds and radio systems, where 75 ohm cable would mismatch the equipment.

What voltage can it handle?

Maximum operating voltage is 1,900 V RMS, suited to high-voltage RF environments.

Which reel lengths are standard?

300 m, 500 m and 1000 m, with other lengths produced to order.

Can you put our labels on the reels?

Yes. Custom labels or project branding are applied on request.

What is the attenuation at 100 MHz?

Roughly 7.2 dB per 100 m, equivalent to about 2.2 dB per 100 ft.
