How to Use This Table
The parts below are designed as functional equivalents. That means they perform the same function at the same voltage class, not that every dimension is identical. Before substituting on an approved design, verify the specific size, wall thickness and voltage class against the drawing your design authority holds.
We will send full dimensions and test data for any part on request so a design authority can compare directly rather than take our word for it.
The Cross Reference Table
| UPM Part | Function | TE Raychem Reference |
|---|---|---|
| C101 | Non tracking insulation tube | HVOT |
| C102-10 / C102-35 | Stress control tube | JSCR |
| C105 | Semiconductive and insulation double layer | CICM |
| C106 | Tri layer joint insulation | ERIT / ERIC / ERIH |
| Y1 | Breakout boots | 302K / 402W / 502K |
| Y2 | Cable end caps | SSC / ESC |
| Y3 | Non tracking rain sheds | SSC / ESC |
| S1-A | Wrap around overhead line cover | MULC |
| R1 | Wraparound cable repair sleeve | CRSM |
What to Check Before Substituting
- Voltage class — confirm the grade matches, particularly for stress control where 24 kV and 36 kV grades differ
- Supplied and recovered diameter — the usable range must cover your actual cable
- Recovered wall thickness — on insulating products this converts directly into withstand
- Any dimension your approved drawing calls out specifically
- Whether your design authority requires a formal type test record for the substitution
The Approval Route That Usually Works
In our experience the substitutions that go smoothly follow the same sequence. Request the datasheet and test data first. Let the design authority compare it against the incumbent specification on paper. Then order a trial quantity and build a sample before committing to a production order.
The exercise typically takes a few weeks and the cost difference usually pays for the whole approval effort on the first order.
Where We Do Not Claim Equivalence
Where a Raychem product uses a fundamentally different technology — a cold shrink body or a geometric stress cone integrated into an elastomeric housing — we do not offer an equivalent and we will say so rather than propose something that only looks similar.
Being honest about that is more useful to you than a table with no gaps in it.
