How to Choose Within This Category

  1. 01

    Fix the Fire Requirement First

    Enclosed public routes normally specify halogen free. Marine and offshore normally specify flame retardant. Check the project specification.

  2. 02

    Assess the Mechanical Exposure

    Buried trafficked and abrasive positions take a heavy wall. Protected positions take a medium wall.

  3. 03

    Measure the Diameter Span

    The tube must clear the largest point and recover onto the smallest. That ratio decides 3:1 or 4:1.

  4. 04

    Decide Whether You Need Adhesive

    Adhesive lined dual wall wherever water must be excluded. Single wall for pure insulation inside a dry enclosure.

  5. 05

    Allow Overlap Onto Sound Material

    At least 25 mm of overlap on undamaged surface at each end.

  6. 06

    Check the Adhesive Bead on Completion

    A continuous bead at both ends confirms the seal on a dual wall product.

Medium and Heavy Wall Tubing Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between halogen free and flame retardant
Flame retardant means the material resists ignition and self extinguishes. Halogen free means it releases no corrosive hydrogen halide gas when it does burn. Enclosed public routes usually specify halogen free and marine rules usually specify flame retardant.
How do I choose between medium wall and heavy wall
Choose heavy wall where the position is buried trafficked or abrasive. Choose medium wall where the tube is protected. Heavy wall costs more per metre and is stiffer after recovery.
When do I need 4:1 instead of 3:1
When the object being covered has a large step such as a connector on a small cable. A 4:1 ratio covers a wider diameter span from one stock size.
Can these tubes be used as MV insulation
They are for sealing insulating and mechanical protection up to 36 kV. They are not stress control layers or primary MV insulation. Use C102 for stress control and C101 or C105 to C107 for MV insulation builds.
Are marine approvals available
UPM materials hold CCS ABS and DNV approvals. Send us the vessel or platform specification and we will confirm which certificate covers your part number.
What colours can you supply
Black is standard across the family. Other colours are available on a production run for phase identification or customer branding.
