Product Overview
What Y1 Does
Molded heat shrinkable breakout boots.Adhesive applied on big end and legs.Sealing and insulation protection for branching of multi-core cables.
Molded two three four and five leg boots with adhesive on the big end and every leg for 1 kV to 36 kV cable It is manufactured by Dalian United Polymer Material Co., Ltd. in Dalian China where radiation cross linking extrusion and molding are all performed in house under one quality system.
Key Benefits
- A sealed insulated and waterproof crutch in one component
- Molded geometry that matches the natural core spread so no forcing is needed
- Adhesive that flows into the crutch void and fills the space between the cores
- Coverage from 4 mm² to 400 mm² conductor size across the Y1 range
- The same component used at 1 kV and at 36 kV so stores hold fewer lines
Who It Is For
Who Benefits Most from Y1
The buyers and site teams this product was designed around
Utility Jointing Crews
Every multi core termination has a crutch and the crutch is where water gets in.
Panel and Switchboard Builders
Incoming multi core cable inside a panel must break out cleanly with a sealed crutch.
Building Services Contractors
Riser and submain cable in shafts where the breakout is inaccessible once the board is closed.
Marine and Offshore Electricians
Multi core cable in wet compartments where a taped crutch will not last.
Problems It Solves
Problems This Product Removes
Every one of these is a failure mode we have seen on real networks
The Crutch Is the Natural Water Path into a Cable
Water runs down the outside of a cable and collects where the cores separate. A molded boot with adhesive on the big end and each leg closes that path permanently.
Taped Breakouts Age and Open up
Tape relaxes with thermal cycling. A cross linked molded boot holds its grip for the life of the cable.
Mechanical Strain Concentrates at the Crutch
The molded shape spreads bending load across the boot instead of concentrating it at the point where the cores separate.
Different Core Counts Need Different Shapes
Boots are available in two three four and five leg forms so one product family covers every common cable construction.
Application Scenarios
Where It Is Used
LV and MV Cable Terminations
Sealing the crutch on any 2 to 5 core cable termination.
Straight Through Joints
Sealing the breakout either side of a multi core joint.
Panel and Board Entries
Terminating multi core cable inside a distribution board.
Marine and Shipyard Cabling
Wet compartment terminations where sealing is mandatory.
Wind Turbine Tower Cabling
Multi core control and power cable inside the tower base.

Manufacturing and Quality
How It Is Made and Checked
Compounding extrusion radiation cross linking expansion and test all under one roof in Dalian
-
01
Compounding
Base polyolefin antioxidants flame retardants and functional fillers are mixed to a recipe held under our own formulation control rather than bought as a masterbatch.
-
02
Extrusion
The compound is extruded to the required wall and diameter. Co extruded products form two or three layers in a single pass so no interface can trap air.
-
03
Radiation Cross Linking
Electron beam irradiation creates the cross linked network that gives the material its shape memory. This step is what makes the product heat shrinkable.
-
04
Expansion
The cross linked part is heated expanded to its supplied diameter and cooled under tension so the expanded shape is locked in until heat is applied again.
-
05
Test and Inspection
More than 90 percent of product performance tests are carried out in our own laboratory including tensile elongation heat aging dielectric strength and tracking resistance.
-
06
Packing and Traceability
Each batch carries a production record so a delivered part can be traced back to its compound lot and process parameters.

Use Guide
How to Select and Install Y1
The sequence our engineers walk customers through on every first installation
-
01
Count the Cores and Read the Conductor Size
Y1 part numbers encode leg count and conductor band. A 4 core 95 mm² cable needs a four leg boot sized for the 70 to 120 mm² band.
-
02
Slide the Boot on Before the Cores Are Separated
The boot must be pushed down the cable before the outer sheath is opened up.
-
03
Position the Crutch Inside the Boot
Push the boot so the crutch sits inside the big end and the legs cover each core evenly.
-
04
Heat the Big End First
Start at the big end so the adhesive flows into the crutch and drives air up the legs.
-
05
Work up Each Leg
Heat one leg at a time from the crutch outward until the leg has fully gripped the core.
-
06
Confirm Adhesive Flow
A small bead of adhesive should be visible at the big end and at the tip of every leg.
