FA Series EN733 Horizontal Centrifugal Pump

BS EN733 / DIN24255 end-suction pump, 2 to 1100 m³/h and head to 152 m, for building services fire and irrigation

Overview

The most fully published pump in the Flowsteer range: every material, every flange option and the full operating envelope are on the datasheet before you ask.

The FA series is a horizontal, axial end-suction, single-stage, single-suction volute pump with back pull-out construction, designed to BS EN733 and DIN24255. Sizes run DN32 to DN250.

The operating envelope is wide: flow from 2 to 1100 m³/h, head from 2 to 152 m, speeds of 1450 to 2900 rpm at 50 Hz and 1750 to 3500 rpm at 60 Hz, temperature from -10 °C to 105 °C and working pressure of 1.2 MPa as standard or 1.6 MPa on request.

Flowsteer supplies the FA as a complete set. The series is specified for city water supply, fire fighting, irrigation, cooling, HVAC, water circulation, liquid transfer and booster service — the broadest application list of any pump in the range.

Key Benefits

What This Pump Does Better

  • The widest published envelope2 to 1100 m³/h and 2 to 152 m of head across DN32 to DN250, with both 50 Hz and 60 Hz speed ranges published.
  • EN733 dimensional interchangeabilityBS EN733 and DIN24255 fix the mounting dimensions, so the FA replaces any EN733 pump of the same size without new pipework.
  • Both DIN and ANSI flangesDIN2501 as standard with ANSI B16.5 150lb as an option, so the same pump suits European and American pipe classes.
  • Bronze impeller as standardA bronze impeller resists the erosion and dezincification that shorten impeller life on potable and raw water duties.
  • Pressure rating to 1.6 MPa1.2 MPa as standard and 1.6 MPa on request covers fire ring mains and high-rise booster duties.
  • Temperature to 105 °CThe -10 °C to 105 °C range takes the FA into heating circuits as well as cold water service.

The Pump and How It Is Built

Application Scenarios

Where This Pump Is Put to Work

  • City water supplyTransfer and distribution duties on municipal potable water networks.
  • Fire protection and fire fightingRing mains, hydrant supply and sprinkler duties where the 1.6 MPa option matters.
  • IrrigationField and scheme irrigation where flow matters more than head.
  • HVAC and coolingChilled and condenser water circulation within the 105 °C temperature limit.
  • Water circulation and liquid transferGeneral plant circulation duties across the DN32 to DN250 band.
  • Booster servicePressure boosting on distribution networks and high-rise risers.

Who It Is For

  • Building services contractors sizing HVAC, booster and fire pumps against EN733 dimensions.
  • Fire protection contractors who need a published pressure rating and a certified pipe flange option.
  • Irrigation scheme designers moving large volumes at moderate head.
  • Municipal water utilities specifying EN733 pumps on distribution and transfer duties.
Problems It Solves

What It Is Chosen to Fix

  • Datasheets that stop short of the operating limitsThe FA publishes flow, head, speed, temperature and pressure limits in full, so selection does not depend on a phone call.
  • Pipe class mismatches on import projectsDIN2501 standard with ANSI B16.5 150lb optional covers both pipe classes from one pump.
  • Impeller erosion on raw waterA bronze impeller as standard lasts longer than cast iron on abrasive and aggressive potable water.
  • Fire duties needing a higher pressure rating1.6 MPa on request covers ring main pressures that a 1.2 MPa pump cannot.
  • One pump for cold and warm circuitsA -10 °C to 105 °C range covers chilled water and heating circulation without a second pump type.

Materials

Wetted Materials and What They Are For

  • Casing — cast iron standardGrey iron is the standard casing for potable, raw and circulating water at ambient temperature.
  • Casing — ductile iron or stainless optionalDuctile iron for higher pressure and pipe loading; stainless where the water is aggressive.
  • Impeller — bronze standardBronze is standard because it resists the erosion and corrosion that thin a cast iron impeller on raw water.
  • Impeller — cast iron or stainless optionalCast iron where cost dominates and the water is clean; stainless for aggressive or dosed water.
  • Shaft — ASTM 420 standardA hardenable martensitic stainless shaft as standard, with ASTM 304, 316 and 1045 available.
  • Seal — mechanical or packingA single mechanical seal as standard, with gland packing available where a small controlled leak is acceptable and repacking is preferred to seal replacement.

Use Guide

Getting This Pump Right on Site

  • Pick the speed first. The same size delivers a very different duty at 1450 rpm and 2900 rpm, and the 60 Hz ranges shift the whole curve.
  • For fire duties, confirm whether the ring main pressure needs the 1.6 MPa option before the pump is ordered; the rating cannot be raised afterwards.
  • Specify the impeller material against the water, not the budget. A bronze impeller on raw water usually outlives two cast iron ones.
  • Where gland packing is chosen, plan for a controlled drip and allow access to the stuffing box for repacking. A mechanical seal needs no drip but no adjustment either.
  • Check the 105 °C limit against heating circuit design temperatures before selecting the FA for a hot water duty.

Cavitation is not a pump defect. It is a suction system defect that destroys the pump, and it is almost always designed in rather than developed.

Questions

FA Series EN733 Horizontal Centrifugal Pump FAQ

What is the difference between EN733 and DIN24255?

BS EN733 is the current European standard for end-suction centrifugal pumps rated at 10 bar; DIN24255 is the older German standard it replaced. The dimensions are the same, which is why both are quoted. An FA pump will land on a baseplate laid out for either.

What is the maximum flow and head?

Flow from 2 to 1100 m³/h and head from 2 to 152 m across the DN32 to DN250 range. No single size reaches both extremes — send the duty point and the frequency and we will name the size and speed.

Can I get ANSI flanges instead of DIN?

Yes. DIN2501 is standard and ANSI B16.5 150lb is available as an option. Tell us the pipe class on site when you request the quotation.

Why is the impeller bronze as standard?

Bronze resists the erosion and corrosion of raw and potable water better than cast iron, which is why it is the standard rather than the option on a series aimed at water supply and fire duties. Cast iron and stainless impellers are available.

What pressure rating is available for fire protection duties?

1.2 MPa is standard and 1.6 MPa is available on request. Fire ring mains frequently need the higher rating, so confirm it at enquiry stage.

Is a mechanical seal or gland packing better for my duty?

A mechanical seal runs dry on the outside and needs no adjustment, which suits clean water and unmanned plant. Gland packing tolerates poorer water and can be repacked in place, but it must drip to stay cool and needs periodic adjustment. Both are available on the FA.
