Industry

Irrigation and Agriculture

High-volume end-suction pumps for field and scheme irrigation, sized from a published curve at 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

Industry Pain Points

What Goes Wrong on These Duties

  • Flow that matters more than headIrrigation duties are usually volume problems, and a pump selected on head alone lands in the wrong part of its curve.
  • Abrasive and aggressive source waterRiver, canal and borehole water carries grit and dissolved salts that thin a cast iron impeller quickly.
  • Supply frequency assumptionsSchemes run on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz supplies, and the same pump delivers a very different duty on each.
  • Seasonal duty with long idle periodsA pump that stands idle between seasons corrodes differently from one that runs continuously.
What Buyers Need

What a Pump Has to Deliver Here

  • High flow capability across a wide size band
  • Impeller materials that resist erosion from grit-bearing water
  • Published speed ranges at both supply frequencies
  • Simple construction that a farm or scheme team can maintain

Typical Scenarios

Where These Pumps Are Installed

  • Scheme irrigation mainsFA series pumps at the high-flow end of the 2 to 1100 m³/h envelope.
  • Field distributionMid-range sizes from the DN32 to DN250 band at moderate head.
  • Canal and river abstractionBronze impellers on grit-bearing surface water.
  • Transfer to storageDE series pumps moving volume between reservoirs and header tanks.
Delivery Capability

How We Handle an Order for This Duty

  • Supply frequency confirmed with the duty point before selection
  • Bronze impeller as standard on the FA series for abrasive water
  • Gland packing available where field repacking is preferred to seal replacement
  • Complete sets crated for export as shown on the factory tour

How to Read a Pump Curve

A published envelope such as 2 to 1100 m3/h is a range of sizes, not the capability of any one pump. Here is how to get from it to a selection.

NPSH and Cavitation

Cavitation is not a pump defect. It is a suction system defect that destroys the pump, and it is almost always designed in rather than developed.

Questions

Irrigation and Agriculture Pump FAQ

What is the highest flow you can supply for an irrigation duty?

The FA series publishes flow from 2 to 1100 m³/h. The size and speed are selected from the duty point, so send both the flow and the head required.

Does the supply frequency change the pump selection?

Yes, substantially. The FA publishes 1450 to 2900 rpm at 50 Hz and 1750 to 3500 rpm at 60 Hz, and the whole curve shifts with speed. Always state the frequency.

Should I choose a mechanical seal or gland packing for a field pump?

Gland packing can be repacked in place with basic tools, which suits a remote installation, but it has to drip to stay cool. A mechanical seal needs no adjustment but has to be replaced rather than tightened. Both are available on the FA series.

What impeller material suits grit-bearing canal water?

Bronze is standard on the FA series and resists erosion better than cast iron. Where the grit loading is severe, tell us and we will review the selection with you.

Specify a Pump for Irrigation and Agriculture

Send the duty point, the supply frequency and what the liquid is. We will name the series, the size and the published specification.
