Fiber Adapter Questions
What is the difference between a ceramic and a bronze sleeve?
Ceramic sleeves hold tighter tolerance and wear more slowly, which is what you want on single-mode and on ports that get re-patched often. Bronze is a lower-cost option normally used on multimode.
How do I choose between flanged and flangeless?
It depends on the panel. Flanged adapters mount through a rectangular cut-out with screws, flangeless versions clip into a smaller aperture. Measure the existing cut-out before ordering replacements.
Can an adapter be used to join UPC to APC?
No. Mating UPC to APC leaves an air gap that costs a large amount of loss and can damage both end faces. If you have to cross polish types, the correct part is an attenuator or a converter assembly, not an adapter.
How often should adapters be replaced?
Replace when a port shows rising loss that cleaning does not fix, or when the sleeve is visibly worn. In a heavily re-patched field this is a consumable, not a permanent fixture.
Do adapters come with dust caps?
Yes, adapters are supplied with caps on both sides. Leave them in place until the port is actually patched, because an open port in a dusty building will need cleaning before first use.
