E2000 adds a spring-loaded shutter that closes over the ferrule the moment the connector leaves the adapter, plus a latching push-pull body. The shutter mechanism is the part that fails if the connector is dropped. Inspect shutter travel, not only the end face, on returned units.

Can an adapter be used to join UPC to APC?
No. Mating UPC to APC leaves an air gap that costs a large amount of loss and can damage both end faces. If you have to cross polish types, the correct part is an attenuator or a converter assembly, not an adapter.
