Pin Plates and Pin Plate Holders

The pin bed is what lets a stenter carry fabric tension. Pins about 5 mm long, in two rows at three to four per centimetre, thickened at the base so the cloth never touches the hot base plate. That grip is what takes fabric speed to 100 m per minute.

Questions About Pin Plates and Holders

What is the standard pin specification?

Pins about 5 mm long, mounted in two rows at roughly three to four pins per centimetre, thickened near the base to prevent direct contact of the fabric with the hot base plate.

How fast can I run with pin plates?

Pinning increases the tension you can hold on the fabric, which lets the cloth run faster. On our customers' lines this reaches 100 m per minute.

Should I replace holders as well as plates?

Gauge the seats with a new plate. If the plate rocks, replace the holder too, because a worn seat destroys a new plate quickly.

Will pinning mark the selvedge?

Pin stenters leave pinholes in the selvedge. Clip stenters do not, but they cannot hold the same tension. Customers generally accept pinholes on pin stentered goods.

Can I re-pin my existing plates?

Yes, if the base plate is flat and the bores are sound. We supply loose pins in bulk for that. Replace the plate if the base has distorted.

How do I order the right profile?

Send one plate. Seat profiles differ between brands and between generations of the same brand, and they are not reliably identified from a model number.
