These are the pins themselves, supplied loose. On a pin stenter the pins are about 5 mm long, mounted in two rows at roughly three to four pins per centimetre along the base plate, and thickened near the base so the fabric does not contact the hot base plate directly.
Buying pins rather than complete plates makes sense where the base plates are sound and only the pins have bent, dulled or broken. It is the lower-cost route back to a bed that grips properly.
