Product Overview
What S1-B Does
Suitable for 1~36kV voltage rate, power switchgear or power transmission and distribution system, various types of lap joints. Cover type insulation protection, to prevent flashover or discharge caused by small animals, dust, pollution, condensation and other accidents. Buckle type opening and closing design, convenient inspection and maintenance, without damaging the lap point. Crosslinked polyolefin material, excellent weather resistance, high temperature resistance, mechanical damage resistance.
Molded clip open covers that insulate bolted busbar joints and still allow inspection without damaging the connection It is manufactured by Dalian United Polymer Material Co., Ltd. in Dalian China where radiation cross linking extrusion and molding are all performed in house under one quality system.
Key Benefits
- Cover type insulation on the one part of a busbar run a tube cannot reach
- Buckle type opening and closing so inspection and maintenance do not damage the joint
- Cross linked polyolefin with weather high temperature and mechanical damage resistance
- Four colours so the joint matches the phase colour of the bar
- Customised to your drawing or to the measured joint dimensions
Who It Is For
Who Benefits Most from S1-B
The buyers and site teams this product was designed around
Switchgear Manufacturers
Every insulated busbar run has bolted lap joints and a tube cannot cover them.
Substation Maintenance Teams
Bolted joints must be thermographically inspected and torque checked which means the cover has to open.
Industrial Plant Electrical Departments
Joints in motor control centres and distribution boards that need routine inspection.
Retrofit Contractors
Adding joint covers after an animal or condensation fault.
Problems It Solves
Problems This Product Removes
Every one of these is a failure mode we have seen on real networks
A Shrink Tube Cannot Conform to a Bolted Lap Joint
The stepped profile of a lap joint with bolt heads cannot be covered by a tube. A molded cover matched to the joint shape is the only clean solution.
Permanent Covers Block Inspection
Bolted joints require torque checks and thermographic survey. The buckle type opening lets the cover be removed and refitted without damage.
Small Animals Dust Pollution and Condensation Bridge Exposed Joints
The joint is normally the largest exposed metal area in an insulated busbar system.
Every Switchboard Has Different Joint Geometry
Covers are made to customer drawings or to the measured joint shape and size.
Application Scenarios
Where It Is Used
Switchgear Busbar Lap Joints
Bolted connections between main bar sections.
Dropper to Main Bar Connections
Tee and lap joints inside a cubicle.
Transformer Terminal Connections
Bolted bar terminations at a transformer.
Motor Control Centre Bar Joints
Joints in vertical and horizontal bar systems.
Retrofit After a Bridging Fault
Adding joint covers to an existing switchboard.

Manufacturing and Quality
How It Is Made and Checked
Compounding extrusion radiation cross linking expansion and test all under one roof in Dalian
-
01
Compounding
Base polyolefin antioxidants flame retardants and functional fillers are mixed to a recipe held under our own formulation control rather than bought as a masterbatch.
-
02
Extrusion
The compound is extruded to the required wall and diameter. Co extruded products form two or three layers in a single pass so no interface can trap air.
-
03
Radiation Cross Linking
Electron beam irradiation creates the cross linked network that gives the material its shape memory. This step is what makes the product heat shrinkable.
-
04
Expansion
The cross linked part is heated expanded to its supplied diameter and cooled under tension so the expanded shape is locked in until heat is applied again.
-
05
Test and Inspection
More than 90 percent of product performance tests are carried out in our own laboratory including tensile elongation heat aging dielectric strength and tracking resistance.
-
06
Packing and Traceability
Each batch carries a production record so a delivered part can be traced back to its compound lot and process parameters.

Use Guide
How to Select and Install S1-B
The sequence our engineers walk customers through on every first installation
-
01
Measure the Joint
Record the bar width thickness overlap length bolt count bolt head height and any spacer dimensions.
-
02
Send a Drawing or Photograph
A dimensioned sketch or a photograph with a rule across the joint is enough for us to quote.
-
03
Choose the Colour
Match the cover colour to the phase colour used on the bar.
-
04
Fit After the Joint Is Torqued
Install the cover only once the bolted connection has been torqued and inspected.
-
05
Close the Buckle Fully
The buckle must be fully engaged along the whole length so no gap remains.
-
06
Reopen for Inspection
At each maintenance interval open the buckle inspect the joint then refit the same cover.
