Decisions to Make Before You Order
Stock and Adhesive
Tell us whether the bottle is chilled, stored in an ice bucket or kept at room temperature. That decides the stock and the adhesive. 3M strong adhesive is specified for metal labels and for hard, cold surfaces where an ordinary glue creeps at the edges.
Foil Emboss or Flat
Decide which elements are raised or foiled and which stay flat, then mark each as its own vector layer in the artwork. Restraint reads as expensive here - a foiled crest on a matt stock has more presence than a label with foil across everything.
Label Size Against the Bottle
Send the bottle dimensions, or a sample bottle, including where the shoulder starts curving. A label sized flat will wrinkle if it runs into the curve. Neck bands need the neck circumference at the exact height the band will sit.
Vintage and Annual Reprints
Build the vintage year as an isolated element so that next year's reprint changes one thing and matches everything else. We keep the approved colour reference from your run, so quote the original order reference when you come back for the new vintage.
Wine Labels Questions
Will the label survive an ice bucket?
Only if the stock and adhesive are chosen for it - an ordinary paper label lifts at the corners once the glass sweats. Tell us how the bottle is chilled and stored before we quote, and take a custom sample to test on a wet bottle first.
What is an embossed metal label and how is it fixed on?
A thin metal label with the design raised into it, applied with 3M strong adhesive. It gives a crest or seal that can be felt as well as seen, and holds on glass where a standard adhesive would creep. It is normally used alongside a printed paper label, not instead of it.
How do I set up artwork for foiling and embossing?
Put the foil and the emboss elements on separate named layers as 100% vector, with the flat print on its own layer. PDF or AI, fonts outlined, 300dpi minimum for any image. We preflight the file and come back to you before imposition if a layer will not hold.
Can you print a short run for a single event?
Yes - digital printing covers small quantities without plate costs, in 1-2 working days for samples. That is the route for wedding, gift and corporate personalised bottlings where the quantity is well under a commercial bottling run.
