A reflective label is printed onto retroreflective film - a facestock with glass beads or prismatic structure that bounces light straight back at its source, so the label lights up under a headlight or torch while ordinary labels stay dark. The product here is UV printed with a strong self-adhesive backing, which is the right combination because UV ink cures on the film surface without dulling the reflective layer beneath. Your decisions are how much of the label is printed versus left clear to reflect, the adhesive for the surface it goes on, and the cut shape. Print coverage is the key trade-off: heavy ink over the whole face kills the effect you are paying for.

How Much to Print
Every area you cover with ink is an area that stops reflecting. The usual approach is to print the text, logo or number and leave the surround clear so the label glows around the mark. Decide what actually needs to be seen at night and keep the ink to that.
Adhesive and Surface
Tell us the surface - painted vehicle panel, powder-coated metal, weathered plastic, textured composite - and whether it is washed, waxed or pressure cleaned. The listed label carries a strong self-adhesive backing; the right adhesive is chosen from the surface, not from the label design.
Size and Cut Shape
Size the label from the viewing distance, not the available space - a label read from across a yard needs far larger characters than one read at arm's length. Shaped and contour cuts are done on the laser, so an outline matching your logo needs no die.
Artwork and Variable Data
Supply PDF, AI, PSD or JPEG at 300dpi minimum with fonts outlined, and keep strokes heavy - thin type loses definition once it is glowing under a headlight. If each label carries a unique asset or fleet number, send the data as a list and mark where it sits.

Will printing over the film reduce how well it reflects?
Yes - anywhere ink covers the film, that area no longer reflects. That is why these are usually designed with a printed mark on a clear reflective ground rather than as a full-bleed print. We will flag heavy coverage during preflight if it will undercut the effect.
Can reflective labels be applied to a curved surface?
Gentle curves are fine; tight compound curves are where reflective film resists conforming, because the film is more rigid than a plain vinyl. Tell us the curve and the panel material and we will advise on size and shape before you order.
Can each label carry a different fleet or asset number?
Yes. Thermal transfer barcode printing in house handles serialised numbers and barcodes, so a fleet of vehicles or a plant register can each get a unique reflective tag on the same production run.
How long do they last outdoors?
Outdoor life depends on the film grade, the surface, and the exposure - a south-facing trailer panel and a sheltered equipment case are very different cases. Order a sample and put it in the actual location first; a digital sample runs in 1-2 working days.
