Envelopes Printing

Printed business and mailing envelopes, including 6x9 inch sizes, branded for direct mail and day-to-day correspondence.

Envelopes are printed flat and converted, so the artwork has to be set on the unfolded blank with the flap, seams and any window allowed for. The main size here is the 6x9 inch mailing envelope, which takes an unfolded A5 sheet or a folded letter and suits urgent correspondence and small dispatch items. Offset printing covers larger runs at a stable colour, while digital handles short branded batches and samples. A buyer has to decide the size and closure, whether the envelope carries a window, how heavy the paper needs to be for what goes inside, and whether the printing is one colour on the face or full colour across the flap as well.

What This Solves and Who Buys It

Problems It Solves

  • An envelope printed as a flat rectangle rather than on the converted blank ends up with logos crossing a seam or disappearing under the flap.
  • Paper chosen too light lets the contents show through or splits in the post; the weight is matched to what is being mailed.
  • Window position and size have to line up with the address block on the letter inside, which is checked at proofing rather than discovered at mailing.
  • Brand colour on an uncoated envelope stock reads differently from the same colour on a coated brochure, so proofs are issued on the actual stock.
  • Urgent mailings fail on lead time, which is why short digital batches can be produced in 1-2 working days.

Who Buys It

  • Marketing teams running a direct mail campaign that needs the envelope opened
  • Finance and admin departments buying branded window envelopes for invoices and statements
  • Law firms, clinics and agencies sending client correspondence on letterhead stock
  • E-commerce sellers dispatching flat, lightweight items in a printed 6x9 mailer
  • Print brokers quoting a stationery set of letterhead, compliment slip and envelope together

Where It Is Used

  • A direct mail pack where the envelope has to earn the open
  • Monthly invoice and statement mailings in branded window envelopes
  • An event invitation in a foil-stamped envelope with a matching card
  • Dispatching printed documents or certificates in a 6x9 mailer
  • A company stationery refresh across letterhead, compliment slip and envelope

Why Order It Here

  • Offset on Heidelberg and Akiyama presses holds colour consistent across a long envelope run, which matters when the envelope sits beside a letterhead.
  • Digital printing covers short runs and samples in 1-2 working days without a plate charge.
  • Hot foil stamping and letterpress are in house, so a foiled crest or a blind-embossed return address does not need a second supplier.
  • Laser cutting handles shaped or windowed flaps that a standard envelope die does not cover.
  • Artwork is preflighted for design discrepancies before imposition, which catches a logo sitting on a fold line before plates are made.
Specification Guide

Decisions to Make Before You Order

  1. Size and Format

A 6x9 inch envelope takes an unfolded A5 sheet or a folded letter and suits urgent post and small flat items. Work backwards from what goes inside, including any insert thickness, before fixing the size.

  2. Window or Plain Face

A window removes address printing on the envelope but ties you to the letter layout inside. Send us the letter template as well as the envelope artwork so the window position can be checked against the address block.

  3. Paper Weight and Opacity

Heavier stock hides the contents and survives handling; lighter stock costs less and keeps postage down. If you are mailing anything confidential, say so and we will recommend a weight with enough opacity.

  4. Print Coverage and Finish

One colour on the face is the cheapest route. Full-colour printing across the back flap, or hot foil on a return address, costs more and changes the converting sequence, so decide before artwork is finalised.

Answers

Envelopes Printing Questions

Can you print on the back flap as well as the face?

Yes. The envelope is printed on the flat blank before converting, so the flap can carry artwork. Tell us at quotation, because it affects imposition and the price.

Do you supply window envelopes?

Yes. Send the letter or invoice template alongside the envelope artwork so the window is positioned against your real address block rather than a generic one.

How should artwork be supplied for envelopes?

PDF, AI, PSD or JPEG at a minimum of 300dpi with fonts saved as outlines. Set the artwork on the unfolded blank and mark the fold and seam lines so nothing lands across a crease.

How fast can branded envelopes be produced?

A small digital run or a sample is 1-2 working days. A regular offset commercial run is 4-5 working days, and a large quantity order 10-12 working days before shipping.

Can envelopes be printed to match our letterhead?

Yes, and that is the usual reason to order them together. Printing both in the same run on the same press keeps the colour match tight, and each finished piece is checked by hand against the approved artwork.
