A brochure is a single printed sheet folded into panels, which is what separates it from a bound booklet and what makes the fold pattern the central decision. The sheet is printed offset or digitally depending on run length, then creased before folding so the coating does not crack along the spine. Decisions to Make Before You Order
Pick the Fold Before You Design
Tri fold, gate, roll, Z and accordion all reveal panels in a different order. Decide the fold first and lay the artwork out panel by panel in the sequence the reader will see.
Shorten the Tucked-In Panels
On roll and gate folds the inner panels must be a few millimetres narrower or the brochure will not close flat. Ask us for a folding template before you finalise the layout.
Crease Heavy or Coated Stock
Anything above a light text weight, and anything laminated, should be creased before folding to stop the coating cracking on the spine. We crease as standard on those stocks.
Match the Run Length to the Process
Digital covers small quantities and no-MOQ formats in 1-2 working days. Offset becomes cheaper per copy as volume grows, at 4-5 working days for regular work.
Brochures Printing Questions
Is there a minimum order for brochures?
Some formats, including the round accordion brochure, run with no MOQ. Across the wider range minimums vary by product, so send your format and quantity and we will confirm.
Can you produce shaped or circular brochures?
Yes. A round 5cm circle accordion fold is a standard item here; die cutting and laser cutting are in house, so non-rectangular shapes do not go to an outside supplier.
How should I set up a folded brochure file?
Supply a flat PDF at minimum 300dpi with fonts outlined, built to a folding template we provide, with panels in the printed position rather than in reading order.
Should I choose a brochure or a booklet?
A folded brochure works up to about six panels. Beyond that the folded sheet becomes bulky and hard to read, and a saddle stitched booklet holds the content better.
Will lamination stop the fold cracking?
Matt lamination helps and gloss less so, but the real fix is creasing before folding. On heavier coated stock we crease as a matter of course rather than as an extra.
