What this family is built for
A roof fixing is a deliberate hole in a watertight surface. The bonded EPDM washer is what turns that hole back into a seal: the rubber is vulcanised to a steel cap so it compresses evenly under the hex head instead of squeezing out sideways, and it stays elastic through the thermal cycling a metal roof sees every day. Over-driving is the usual failure mode, which is why the washer diameter and head geometry are sized to give the installer a visible compression stop.
Above the washer, the coating system does the rest of the work. A colour polymer layer over a zinc base matches the fastener to RAL-referenced panel colours so the fixing pattern disappears from the elevation, while Ruspert-type multi-layer finishes are specified where coastal salt or agricultural atmospheres would strip plain electroplate. Both are applied to the same DIN 7504K drill-point blank.
