Why it is built this way

Torx exists because cam-out wastes torque and ruins heads. On a structural wood screw that matters more than anywhere else: these are long fasteners driven deep into dense timber, and the last 40 mm of a 200 mm screw is where the resistance peaks and a tapered recess starts slipping. A Torx lobe transfers torque through six straight walls and simply does not cam out.

The integral flange under the head replaces a separate washer, spreading bearing load across the timber face. Together they make the configuration decking contractors ask for by name — high torque in, flush seat out, no slipped bits and no chewed heads at the end of a long run.
