Aeration And Mixing Packages For Treatment Basins

Aeration is usually the largest power consumer on a treatment works and the least flexible part of the design. Submerged aerators let you add capacity basin by basin instead of rebuilding the blower house.

How An Aeration Package Is Put Together

The sizing is arithmetic. What takes the time is deciding where units sit and how they come out for service.

Load Assessment

Oxygen demand is often quoted as a machine size rather than a load.

We work from basin volume, depth and kilograms of BOD per day, and say how much transfer capacity is needed.

Machine Selection

One large unit leaves dead zones, too many small ones cost more to run.

Unit count and placement are proposed together, with mixing coverage checked as well as oxygen transfer.

Mounting

Units installed on the floor cannot be lifted without draining the basin.

Fixed base, guide rail or float mounting chosen at design stage so service does not need a shutdown.

Electrical

Cable entries and motor protection are an afterthought.

Motor rating, cable length and protection arrangement confirmed against the site supply before build.

Commissioning

Aeration is set once and never checked.

Commissioning guidance covering run-in checks, and what to monitor to know the transfer is still where it should be.

Maintenance

Spares are ordered only after a failure.

A spares list against the model number, sized for the number of units on site.

What This Removes From Your Workload

  • No blower house, air main or diffuser grid to build and maintain
  • Capacity added basin by basin rather than in one large step
  • Mixing and aeration from the same machine in activated sludge duty
  • Units lift out for service where guide rails are fitted
  • Spares held against the model number for the life of the plant

What We Need From You

  • Basin volume, depth and shape
  • Organic load in kilograms of BOD per day, or the process stage
  • Whether the basin can be drained for service
  • Site supply voltage and frequency
  • Any existing aeration you are replacing or supplementing

Wastewater Aeration And Mixing FAQ

How do you decide between an aerator and a jet aerator?

Basin geometry. A submersible aerator suits deeper basins with a compact footprint, a jet aerator drives a mixed stream across a wider shallow volume.

Can these units replace a diffuser grid?

In many basins yes, and that removes the blower house and the air main. Send the existing design and the load and we will compare.

How fine are the bubbles?

Air and water mix inside the impeller and the gas is dispersed into bubbles of around 100 microns in diameter.

Do the mixers add oxygen?

No. Submersible mixers only move the basin contents, which is what anoxic zones and balancing tanks need.

What maintenance do the units need?

Periodic inspection of the impeller, stator and seal, plus cable checks. Where guide rails are fitted the unit comes out without draining the basin.

Send Basin Volume Depth And Load

We will come back with unit count, placement and the mounting arrangement, not just a model number.
