Progressing Cavity Pumps

SKPG Progressing Cavity Pump

A single screw rotor turning inside a stator, moving viscous and solid laden media at a steady rate in any mounting position.

SKPG progressing cavity pump with long stator and motor on a base frame

Overview

What This Pump Does

The SKPG progressing cavity pump, often called a screw pump, is used for pumping high viscosity liquid including slurry with solids. It can be used in almost all branches of industry for low to highly viscous media with or without solids.

The pump gives steady low pulsation delivery, self primes even with air or gas liquid mixtures up to 8.5 mWS, installs in any position, has a large spherical entrance port and can be reversed to change delivery direction.

Key Benefits

What A Screw Pump Does Differently

Steady Low Pulsation Flow

Sealed cavities carry the medium from suction to discharge, which keeps delivery smooth for dosing and filter feed.

High Self Priming

Priming to 8.5 mWS, even with air or gas liquid mixtures, so the pump recovers after a line drains.

Any Mounting Position

Installation possibilities in all positions let the layout follow the plant instead of the pump.

Solids Pass The Inlet

A large spherical entrance port lets solid laden media enter rather than bridge at the suction.

Application Scenarios

Where It Is Installed

Sludge And Polymer Feed

Dosing and dewatering feed where steadiness of flow decides the result.

Viscous Food And Chemical Media

Pastes, preparations and viscous chemicals moved without shear.

Oil And Slurry Transfer

Oil, slurry and food duty as listed on the data sheet, with material chosen for the medium.

Who It Is For

  • Wastewater plants feeding dewatering equipment
  • Food processors moving pastes and preparations
  • Chemical plants with viscous media
  • Mining operations handling slurry

Problems It Solves

Viscosity stalls the pump

Positive displacement action moves the same volume per revolution regardless of viscosity.

Pulsing flow upsets the process

Low pulsation delivery protects instruments, filters and dosing accuracy downstream.

No space for a horizontal set

The pump can be installed in any position, which solves awkward plant layouts.

Technical Data

Published SKPG data. Viscosity at pumping temperature and particle size are what move the selection, so send both with the flow.

Compared With Other Options

Rubber lobe pumpThe lobe pump is more compact and faster to service. The screw pump handles higher viscosity with smoother flow.
Centrifugal pumpA centrifugal pump loses head as viscosity rises and cannot pass the same solids.

Use Guide

Commissioning A Progressing Cavity Pump

Never Run Dry

The stator depends on liquid for lubrication. Fit dry run protection where the suction can empty.

Check Direction

Confirm rotation before the first run, since the pump is reversible and delivery follows the direction.

Start Against An Open Line

Open the discharge before starting. A closed valve builds pressure immediately on a positive displacement pump.

Monitor Stator Wear

A gradual drop in flow at the same speed is the normal sign the stator needs replacing.

Answers

SKPG Progressing Cavity Pump FAQ

What viscosity can it handle?

Low to highly viscous media, with or without solids. Send the viscosity at pumping temperature for the selection.

What is the temperature limit?

The data sheet gives 120 degrees Celsius standard and 350 degrees on the high temperature build.

How much self priming?

Up to 8.5 mWS, including with air or gas liquid mixtures.

Can it be mounted vertically?

Installation is possible in all positions, which is one of the published features.

What connection is supplied?

Flanged connections, with horizontal installation as the standard arrangement.
