A mechanical device for mixing sludge tanks and other liquid volumes, used throughout sewage treatment where movement matters and air does not.

Overview
The submersible mixer is a mechanical device used to mix sludge tanks and other liquid volumes. It is common in sewage treatment, where keeping solids in suspension is a separate requirement from adding oxygen.
Because it only moves the contents, it is the right machine for anoxic zones, balancing tanks and sludge holding tanks, where aeration would disturb the process or waste energy.
Key Benefits
Anoxic and balancing duties need the contents moving but not aerated. A mixer does exactly that.
Preventing settlement protects working volume and avoids odour from stagnant deposits.
Submerged mounting keeps the machine out of the way and avoids surface splashing.
Mixers and aerators are often used together, each doing the job it is suited to.
Application Scenarios
Keeping thickened sludge homogeneous before transfer or dewatering.
Maintaining movement in stages where oxygen must stay out of the process.
Preventing settlement where flow and load vary through the day.
Continuous movement keeps material in suspension so the tank keeps its working volume.
Using an aerator for mixing in an anoxic zone upsets the process and wastes energy.
Moving the whole volume prevents the stagnant pockets that generate odour.

Materials And Process
| Submersible aerator | An aerator adds oxygen and mixes. A mixer only mixes, which is what anoxic zones and balancing tanks require. |
|---|---|
| Top entry agitator | A top entry agitator needs a bridge or cover structure. A submersible mixer mounts inside the tank. |
Use Guide
Position and angle decide whether the whole volume moves or only part of it.
Confirm the mixer stays submerged at the lowest operating level.
A guide rail and lifting arrangement allows service without emptying the tank.
Check for rag build up at routine intervals, especially on unscreened liquid.
Answers
No. It only moves the tank contents, which is what anoxic zones and balancing tanks need.
Sludge tanks and other liquid volumes in sewage treatment.
Yes where a guide rail and lifting arrangement is fitted, which should be specified with the order.
It depends on volume, geometry and solids. Send tank dimensions and the contents for a recommendation.
Yes, mixers and aerators are commonly used in the same plant, each on the duty it suits.
