Why it is built this way
Engineering notes
Truss heads exist to solve one problem — small holes in weak material. Lath, expanded mesh, perforated sheet and thin cladding all have very little material immediately around a fixing, and a narrow head simply pulls through. The truss profile widens the bearing circle substantially while staying low enough not to snag.
Paired with a drill point it becomes a one-pass fixing for mesh and lath over steel framing, which is where most of this line ends up.
