Why it is built this way
Engineering notes
A Hi-Lo thread puts two different thread heights on one screw. The tall thread cuts deep into the substrate and carries the withdrawal load; the low thread between it keeps the core supported and stops the material crumbling out between turns. In gypsum, cement board and other soft or friable substrates that combination holds measurably better than a single uniform thread.
The Magni coating is what takes this variant outdoors. It is a coating system rather than an electroplate — applied and cured rather than deposited — and it is specified where black phosphate would simply rust: humid interiors, coastal work, and exterior sheathing that will be covered later but has to survive the weather in the meantime.
