Coating Chosen After the Profile Is Designed
A profile drawn for bare carbon strip often cannot be run in prepainted coil without marking the paint. Deciding between GI, PPGI, GL, PPGL and Zn-Al-Mg while the tooling is still on paper avoids reworking the roll set.
Painting In House Instead of Buying Prepainted
Forming bare coil and then painting the finished part adds a line, a booth and a curing step. PPGI and PPGL arrive with the color already on the strip and keep the finishing operation out of the plant.

What is the difference between GI and GL coil?
GI is zinc coated galvanized coil and GL is galvalume, an aluminum zinc coating. GL is generally chosen for longer atmospheric durability on the face while GI is the traditional choice for formed structural sections. PPGI and PPGL are the prepainted versions of each.
When would you specify Zn-Al-Mg coil instead of galvanized?
Zinc aluminum magnesium coating is specified where the cut edge and the formed corners are the exposure risk rather than the flat face, which is common on outdoor structural components that are sheared and punched after coating.
Can you slit coil to our running width?
Yes. Decoiling, cutting and decoiling are part of the processing service, so strip can be delivered at the width your line runs instead of at master coil width.
