Export Packing Marking and Shipping for Steel Orders

Steel that leaves the yard in good condition and arrives rusted, unmarked or short is a claim nobody wins quickly.

Service Export Packing and Shipping

Steel that leaves the yard in good condition and arrives rusted, unmarked or short is a claim nobody wins quickly. Most of the damage is decided before the container doors close, in how the bundles are built, how the painted or galvanized surface is protected and whether the marking survives handling at both ports. Tianyu Metal agrees the packing method and the marking scheme with the order rather than applying a default, photographs the cargo before loading and releases the documents together with the mill test certificate. Shipments go to buyers in Southeast Asia, South America and Africa.

The Problem

What This Removes From Your Procurement

Surface Damage That Only Shows at Unloading

Galvanized and pre painted coil, tinplate and painted plate are sold on appearance as much as on strength. Packing is built around the ordered finish so the material is not downgraded in transit.

Cargo That the Receiving Site Cannot Lift

Bundle weight and coil inside diameter decide whether the customer can handle the load at all. Both are confirmed against your equipment before the material is packed.

Short Shipment Arguments Without Evidence

Counts disputed after arrival cost more in time than in steel. Bundles counted into the packing list and photographed before loading give both sides the same record.

Freight Booked Against the Wrong Method

Twelve meter pipe and wide plate do not fit a standard container. Deciding container against break bulk while the order is still in production keeps the freight cost predictable.

Paperwork Trailing the Cargo

A certificate or packing list that arrives after the vessel stalls clearance and payment. Releasing the full set with the shipment closes that gap.

Step By Step

How We Run It

  1. Packing Requirement Agreed at Order

Packing is usually the last line on a purchase order and the first thing to go wrong. A buyer who never states how the material will be unloaded gets packing built for the truck, not for the crane at the other end. We ask how the cargo will be discharged and stored before packing is fixed, then record the bundle size, the protection and the marking on the order confirmation so it is part of the contract rather than a favor.

  2. Marking Scheme Matched to Your Goods Inward

Bundles that arrive marked with the supplier's own internal codes have to be identified by tape measure on the quay, which is where grades get mixed and parts get booked in against the wrong line. Bundles are marked with the grade, the dimensions and your part or item numbers so the marking reads the same way your receiving sheet does. Mixed grade shipments are separated bundle by bundle.

  3. Surface and Edge Protection

A painted plate, a zinc coated coil or a tinplate sheet that is chafed in transit arrives as a cosmetic reject even though the steel itself is sound. Protection is chosen for the ordered finish. Painted and coated surfaces are packed so faces are not rubbed, plate edges and cut panels are protected, and coils are packed to keep the coating and the edges intact through handling.

  4. Bundling Coils and Pipe for the Handling Equipment

A coil that cannot be lifted by the customer's mandrel or a pipe bundle heavier than the site crane means the cargo is unloaded by improvisation and damaged in the process. Coil inside diameter and coil weight are confirmed against your equipment before production, for example tinplate coil at 420mm or 508mm inside diameter and 1 to 5 MT coil weight. Pipe is bundled by size and grade with caps fitted on the ends where the order calls for them.

  5. Photographs Before Loading

When a claim is raised, neither side can prove what condition the cargo left in, and the argument turns into a negotiation instead of a fact. The marked bundles and the loaded container are photographed before the doors close and the photographs are sent to you, so the condition at origin is documented for both sides.

  6. Loading by Container or Break Bulk

Long or large diameter material booked into a standard container has to be cut, rebooked or left behind, and the freight is paid twice. Loading method follows the material. Fixed lengths of 5.8m and 6m and sheet lengths up to 6000mm load into containers, while 12m lengths and large diameter LSAW and SSAW joints are planned as open top or break bulk before the booking is made.

  7. Documents Released with the Shipment

Documents that follow the cargo delay clearance, hold up a letter of credit and leave goods inward unable to book material that is already in the yard. The packing list, invoice, mill test certificate and transport documents are released together, with scanned copies sent by email as soon as they are issued. Tell us what your import clearance requires and we confirm in advance what can be issued.

Who It Is For

Buyers Who Ask For This

  • Importers and traders in Southeast Asia South America and Africa consolidating mixed steel orders
  • Buyers whose site unloads with a single crane and needs bundle weights planned around it
  • Coil processors who have to match coil inside diameter and weight to their own decoiler
  • Project teams clearing customs against a letter of credit that names the document set
  • Distributors who resell bundles unopened and need the marking to stay readable
  • Contractors receiving cut panels that must be sorted on arrival without a workshop

Questions Buyers Ask

Export Packing and Shipping FAQ

How is the packing method decided?

It is agreed with the order. We ask how the cargo is discharged and stored at your end, then record bundle size, surface protection and marking on the order confirmation so nothing is left to a default.

Can you mark bundles with our own item numbers?

Yes. Marking carries the grade and dimensions and can carry your part or item numbers as well, so the bundles read the same way as your receiving sheet and mixed grade loads stay separated.

What coil inside diameter and coil weight can you supply?

Tinplate coil is supplied at 420mm or 508mm inside diameter with coil weight of 1 to 5 MT. For other coil products tell us the inside diameter and maximum weight your decoiler and crane accept and we confirm before production.

Do we see the cargo before it ships?

Yes. The marked bundles and the loaded container are photographed before the doors close and the photographs are sent to you, which also settles condition and count if anything is queried later.

How do you handle lengths that will not fit a container?

Fixed lengths of 5.8m and 6m and sheet lengths up to 6000mm load into containers. Twelve meter pipe, long random lengths and large diameter LSAW and SSAW joints are planned as open top or break bulk before the freight is booked.

Which documents come with the shipment?

Packing list, invoice, transport documents and the mill test certificate or EN 10204 certificate for the material. Tell us what your customs clearance and bank require and we confirm what can be issued before the cargo moves.
