Industrial composting explained
What changes when a composter stops being equipment and becomes a facility.
Below about two tonnes a day, a composter is a machine you position, connect and commission. Above it, the machine is one component in a line.
Industrial systems begin with pre-treatment. On the CR-10T, waste is unloaded, crushed, and put through solid-liquid and oil-water separation before it reaches the fermentation bin - because ten tonnes a day of unprepared mixed waste will defeat any downstream process.
Fermentation is then held at temperature: 65 to 75 degrees C with auxiliary heating, with continuous gap stirring maintaining oxygen in the chamber. Compost is removed weekly and sent for conversion into an organic fertilizer tailored to the operation.
The engineering consequence is that facilities at this scale are custom-designed and built to suit specific needs and capacity requirements. Layout, feeding, deodorisation and control integration are agreed before manufacture, not after delivery.
