Window fabrication runs on pre-drilled and pre-punched profiles, which makes a tapping screw the natural fastener: the hole is already there, and the screw forms its thread into the extrusion wall without the swarf a drill point would produce inside a sealed frame cavity.

The yellow zinc finish does double duty. It adds a step of corrosion protection over clear zinc — useful in a frame that will see condensation for decades — and it makes the window screws instantly distinguishable from the white-zinc drilling screws on the same bench.
