Customized tinplate sheet is electrolytic tinplate, SPTE or ETP, built to an ordered combination of base steel, gauge, temper, tin coating weight and surface finish instead of a fixed stock specification. Can makers, closure producers and packaging converters specify it when a drawing calls a particular coating weight or temper that a general stock sheet does not match. Ordering the sheet to specification removes the habit of buying the nearest available grade and then absorbing the scrap rate that comes from forming a sheet that is slightly too hard, too soft or too thin. Every combination is released against GB/T 2520-2008, JIS G3303-2008, DIN EN 10203-1991 or ASTM A623M-2011 with a mill test certificate.

- Name the standard your drawing follows so the certificate is issued against the same document
- Order a softer temper for the deepest draw in the pack and a harder or double reduced temper for ends and closures

- Keep sheets in the original interleaved packing until the press so the tin surface is not scuffed

Can we order a different tin weight on each face?
Differential coating can be quoted within the 1.1~11.2g/m2 range. Tell us which face contacts the product and what the other face has to do.
Which temper should we use for a deep drawn can body?
Softer tempers such as T2 or T2.5 are usual for deep drawing, with T4, T5 or the DR grades kept for ends and closures. Send the draw ratio and we can confirm.
Is SPCC MR or SPCH better for our part?
SPCC is the general cold rolled base, MR is the packaging base grade and SPCH suits harder tempers. The choice follows the temper and the forming severity.
How close is the thickness held?
To +/- 0.01 mm on the ordered gauge, which is what allows a lightweighting step to be taken with confidence.
