Wear Resistant Steel Plate

AR400 AR500 AR600 Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate

Quenched and tempered wear plate for chutes liners buckets and crusher bodies

AR400 AR500 AR600 steel plate is a quenched and tempered alloy plate used where sliding and impact abrasion destroy ordinary structural steel. It is supplied in 2-100mm thickness and is specified by fabricators who rebuild loader buckets bulldozer blades excavator wear parts and bulk handling chutes. The plate can be cut bent welded punched and bolted into existing structures so a worn liner can be replaced without redesigning the equipment around it.

Why It Is Specified

Key Benefits of AR400 AR500 AR600 Steel Plate

Service Life Measured Against Ordinary Plate

Wear resistance is stated at 15-20 times that of ordinary steel plate and 5-10 times that of low alloy steel plate so liner change intervals stretch instead of repeating every shutdown.

Impact Load Carried by the Substrate

The hardened layer takes the abrasion while the softer substrate carries the impact load which is why AR plate survives lumpy feed that cracks through hardened cast liners.

Field Repairable Without Special Equipment

It can be cut bent welded plug welded and bolted so a maintenance crew can fit replacement panels on site and save shutdown time.

Three Hardness Grades From One Supplier

AR400 AR500 and AR600 come from the same stock so you can step hardness up on the high wear zone and keep the cheaper grade on the rest of the structure.

Heat and Corrosion Tolerance

The alloy wear layer is recommended for service at or below 600 degrees Celsius and the chromium content in the layer gives it some rust and corrosion resistance.

Problems It Solves

What This Material Removes From Your Process

Liners Wearing Out Between Planned Shutdowns

Mild steel liners in an abrasive duty often fail before the next scheduled stop and force an unplanned outage. Stepping up to AR500 or AR600 in the high wear zone moves the failure point past the shutdown window.

Hardened Castings Cracking Under Impact

High chromium cast iron resists abrasion but breaks under lumpy feed. AR plate keeps a tough substrate under the hard layer so the panel deforms rather than shattering.

Wear Parts That Cannot Be Repaired On Site

Parts that cannot be welded or drilled have to go back to a workshop. AR plate accepts cutting bending welding and punching so panels can be fitted by the site crew.

Buying Full Plates To Make Small Panels

Cut to size supply removes the offcut you pay for and store when you only need a few liner panels per shutdown.

Application Scenarios

Where It Is Used

Loader and Excavator Wear Parts

Bucket floors side cutters and bulldozer mouldboards where soil rock and slag grind the working face away.

Crusher and Screen Plant Liners

Feed boxes chute liners and screen decks in quarry and aggregate plants taking continuous impact from falling rock.

Cement and Coal Handling

Transfer chutes hoppers and cyclone linings in cement coal and power plants where fine abrasive dust cuts through mild steel.

Metallurgical and Glass Plant Equipment

Slag handling and furnace area components where abrasion is combined with elevated temperature up to the recommended 600 degrees Celsius limit.

Brick Tile and Building Material Lines

Mixer paddles augers and press tooling faces on clay and building material production lines.

AR400 AR500 AR600 Steel Plate Against the Alternatives

Ordinary carbon steel plateWear resistance is stated at 15-20 times that of ordinary steel plate so panel life is longer in the same duty.
Low alloy structural plateWear resistance is stated at 5-10 times that of low alloy steel plate at a similar fabrication effort.
High chromium cast ironWear resistance is stated at 2-5 times that of high chromium cast iron and the plate can be welded and bolted where the casting cannot.
Hardfacing overlay on mild steelAR plate arrives ready to cut and fit with a uniform through thickness grade instead of a deposited layer that has to be applied and dressed.
Use Guide

Specifying Handling and Welding Notes

  • Match the grade to the duty and keep AR600 for the highest wear zone rather than the whole structure
  • Preheat before welding thicker sections and follow the welding procedure for quenched and tempered steel
  • Keep service temperature at or below 600 degrees Celsius for the standard alloy wear layer
  • Allow for reduced bend radius as hardness increases and bend across the rolling direction where possible
  • Send your liner drawing so panels arrive cut bent and punched ready to bolt in
  • Order the mill test certificate with the shipment so the grade is documented for the maintenance record
Questions Buyers Ask

AR400 AR500 AR600 Steel Plate FAQ

What thickness range can you supply in AR400 AR500 and AR600?

Thickness runs from 2mm to 100mm. Size is cut to your requirement so you can order finished liner panels instead of full plates.

How much longer does AR plate last than ordinary steel plate?

The wear resistance is stated at 15-20 times that of ordinary steel plate 5-10 times that of low alloy steel plate and 2-5 times that of high chromium cast iron. Actual life depends on the feed material and impact energy in your application.

Can AR plate be welded to our existing chute structure?

Yes. It can be cut bent welded and punched and connected to other structures by welding plug welding or bolting which is why it is used for on site liner repairs.

What is the maximum service temperature?

The alloy wear resistant layer is recommended for use at or below 600 degrees Celsius. Where vanadium molybdenum and other alloys are added to the wear layer it can withstand high temperature wear at or below 800 degrees Celsius.

Do you supply a mill test certificate?

Yes. A mill test certificate is issued for the ordered grade and ships with the material.

Can we get a sample before placing a production order?

Samples are available. Send the grade and thickness you want to evaluate together with the panel size and we will confirm what can be released.

Do you cut and bend the panels or do we fabricate them ourselves?

Processing services cover bending welding decoiling cutting and punching so you can receive finished panels or plain plate depending on what your workshop is set up for.
