Q+T armor sheet for armor doors walls counters safes and protective equipment
Bulletproof steel sheet, also called ballistic steel plate, is a quenched and tempered armor sheet made by controlled metallurgical processing to hold a hardness of 500-600 HB. Security door builders, bank fit out contractors, safe manufacturers and protective equipment producers specify it for armor doors, armor walls, ballistic windows, bank counters, confidential safes, armor shields, armor vests and ballistic helmets. Sheet at this hardness is slow to fold, weld and cut in a general fabrication shop, so cutting to size and every fixing hole are produced here on laser or water jet equipment. Thickness runs from 2.3mm to 100mm so a light shield panel and a heavy vault section can be specified on the same order.
The sheet is typically 500-600 HB, where structural steel may only be half of that. That hardness is what the stated protection levels rest on.
Yield strength is 1250 MPa and tensile strength is 1600 MPa. The material data links these figures to a greater multi hit capacity than other steel.
Sheet starts at 2.3mm, which suits shield panels, counter linings and door skins where thickness and weight are tightly limited.
FB4+ to FB7, NIJ IIIA to NIJ IV, STANAG 4569 Level 1 and Level 2, and GA-3 to GA-6 are all quoted from the same product, so an export order can be written against whichever system the end client uses.
Fixing holes and profiles are produced on a laser machine or water jet. Your workshop assembles instead of fighting the hardness with conventional tooling.
Sheet is supplied natural or painted, so a door skin can go straight to cladding and a hidden panel can stay in the mill condition.
Drills and shears wear out fast at 500-600 HB and hole positions drift. Cutting to size and all fixing holes are produced on laser or water jet equipment before the sheet ships.
One project may be written in FB terms and the next in NIJ or GA terms. The same sheet is quoted against FB4+ to FB7, NIJ IIIA to NIJ IV, STANAG 4569 Level 1 and Level 2, and GA-3 to GA-6.
Adding thickness to reach a level loads the hinges and the frame. Because ballistic performance at a given thickness improves as hardness increases, the level can be held without adding sheet.
Shield panels and vault sections often come from two suppliers with two sets of paperwork. A single range from 2.3mm to 100mm keeps one specification across the project.
Security work is signed off on documents. A test report is issued for the material supplied so the fabricator has something to pass on.
Steel cores inside security doors and wall linings in banks, embassies, control rooms and detention facilities.
Counter fronts and window frame sections in cash handling areas built to a named protection level.
Body and door sheet for safes and strongrooms where thicker sections toward 100mm are used.
Cut panel work for handheld shields and hard armor plate inserts produced to a stated level.
Formed and cut components for helmets and small protective fittings using the thinner end of the range.
Ballistic and explosion proof projects where the specification calls for armor sheet in fixed structures.

| Structural steel sheet in a security door | Structural steel may be only half the hardness of ballistic steel, so it does not carry the stated protection level at the same thickness. |
|---|---|
| A lower hardness armor grade | As the hardness of bulletproof steel sheet increases the ballistic performance at the same thickness improves, and the price rises with it. |
| Laminated ballistic glass in a counter screen | Steel sheet is used for the opaque sections such as counter fronts and door cores while the glazing handles the vision panel, and both can be specified to the same level. |
| Sheet cut in a general fabrication shop | Folding welding and cutting all get harder as ballistic capability improves, so profiles and holes are produced here on laser or water jet equipment instead. |
Armor steel sheet starts at 2.3mm and runs up to 100mm, so the thin end of the range covers shields, counter linings and door skins.
FB4+, FB5, FB6 and FB7, NIJ IIIA, NIJ III and NIJ IV, STANAG 4569 Level 1 and Level 2, and GA-3 to GA-6. Tell us which system the end client writes in and the order is set against it.
Hardness is typically 500-600 HB with yield strength of 1250 MPa and tensile strength of 1600 MPa.
Ease of folding, welding and cutting decreases as the ballistic capability of the steel improves, so all fixing holes and cutting to size are performed here on a laser machine or a water jet.
Not only thickness. As the hardness of the armor steel plate increases, the ballistic performance of a sheet of the same thickness improves, and the higher hardness also costs more.
A test report is issued for the supplied material and ships with it. Email us with the level, thickness and quantity and the report scope is confirmed on the quotation.
Samples are available. Give the thickness and the panel size you want to evaluate and we will confirm what can be released.
