SC pairs a 2.5 mm ferrule with a square push-pull housing that clicks into the adapter and releases by pulling the body straight back. It is the workhorse of FTTH and passive optical distribution: a technician can seat a port blind, inside a closure, wearing gloves, without rotating anything.

On the other face it mates to LC (Lucent Connector). LC uses a 1.25 mm ferrule in an RJ-style latch body, giving roughly twice the port density of SC in the same panel width.
