Why PEEK Replaced Metal In Stenter Wear Parts

Self-lubrication, high temperature resistance and low noise are why PEEK took over the wear interfaces.

Why PEEK Replaced Metal In Stenter Wear Parts
Self-lubrication, high temperature resistance and low noise are why PEEK took over the wear interfaces.

What PEEK is

PEEK, polyether ether ketone resin, is a high performance special thermoplastic material. It has excellent high temperature resistance, wear resistance, self-lubrication, low noise, corrosion resistance and high strength, and it has been widely used in the field of textile machinery.

A PEEK bushing is a bearing made from this high performance plastic, known for its strength, chemical resistance and ability to perform in high temperature environments.

The bush between pin and chain

The PEEK bush is a wear-resistant lining between the pin and the chain, replacing the original copper mesh lining. Because of the self-lubricating characteristics of the PEEK material, it is more wear resistant and has a longer service life.

Using a PEEK bush improves the working life of the chain, and the bush can be changed easily. That combination is what makes chain servicing a real alternative to chain replacement.

The nut on the lead rod

To be exact, the PEEK nut should be called the adjustable nut of the setting machine lead rod, which helps the guide rail to be widened. It is self-lubricating and does not require the use of molybdenum disulfide. It is not easy to break, resists high temperature, corrosion and wear, and has a longer service life.

The slider on the rail

The slider rides the guide rail and decides how the chain behaves on the track. PEEK sliders are self-lubricating and quieter than metal, but they want a rail in good condition. Copper conducts heat away and copes better with a rail that has surface defects, so rail condition decides this choice, not the price list.

What PEEK does not do

PEEK is not a substitute for maintenance. Clean the guide and chain at least once a year and add a high temperature grease on the bearing side, even with self-lubricating bushes and sliders fitted. PEEK removes lubrication points; it does not remove the service.

FAQ

Quick Answers

What is PEEK?

Polyether ether ketone resin, a high performance special thermoplastic with excellent high temperature resistance, wear resistance, self-lubrication, low noise, corrosion resistance and high strength.

What does a PEEK bush replace?

The original copper mesh lining between the pin and the chain. PEEK is self-lubricating, so it is more wear resistant and lasts longer.

Do PEEK nuts need molybdenum disulfide?

No. PEEK is self-lubricating, so the molybdenum disulfide used on older nuts is not required.

Does PEEK remove the need to grease the chain?

No. Clean the guide and chain at least once a year and use a high temperature grease on the bearing side. PEEK removes lubrication points, not the service.
