Precision Leveling Line Rolls for Metal Strip Processing

Leveling line rolls are the parts of a straightening machine that decide surface finish, flatness precision and how long the line can run between stoppages. These rolls are made to support functional rolls and intermediate rolls during high load operation so deflection and bending do not print shape defects into the product.

  • Ultra high surface hardness with uniform distribution
  • Deep integral hardened layer on the roll body
  • Roll neck and barrel optimised for strength and impact toughness
  • Made to drawing for existing straightening equipment

Key Benefits

What the roll specification controls on a levelling line.

Surface Finish And Flatness Together

Machining accuracy and manufacturing quality of the roll are the factors that decide surface finish and flatness precision on finished plate and strip.

Deflection Restrained Under Load

The rolls support functional and intermediate rolls, restraining deflection, bending and structural deformation caused by long term tension work.

Overload Capability

Anti peeling performance and anti overload capability let the roll survive the shock events that occur on high speed large scale lines.

Where It Is Used

Machines that run these rolls.

  • Rolling mill straightening equipment
  • Tension straightening machines on strip lines
  • High speed large output levelling lines
  • Plate and strip finishing sections

Who It Is For

  • Plants operating high precision straightening equipment
  • Maintenance stores holding levelling roll spares
  • Equipment builders specifying roll sets
  • Buyers replacing rolls that peel or deform early

Problems It Solves

  • Roll peeling that marks the strip surface
  • Deflection and bending under long term tension processing
  • Flatness precision falling away during a campaign
  • Overload damage after a strip jam

Technical Features

Manufacturing points behind the performance.

Uniform Hardness Distribution

Standardised high standard manufacturing gives ultra high surface hardness that is even across the roll body rather than only at one zone.

Deep Integral Hardened Layer

The hardened layer runs deep into the roll body so profile survives repeat regrinding.

Optimised Neck And Barrel

Neck and barrel geometry balance structural strength against impact toughness for high load duty.

Materials

  • Alloy steel roll body
  • Deep hardened working layer
  • Hard chrome plated contact surface

Manufacturing Process

Drawing And Duty Review

Machine type, roll position and load are confirmed before material selection.

Machining

The roll body, neck and barrel are turned to the drawing.

Heat Treatment

The integral hardened layer is built to depth across the body.

Grinding And Plating

The barrel is ground, plated and finish ground concentric to the necks.

Quality Control

  • Hardness mapping across the roll body
  • Hardened layer depth verification
  • Dimensional and runout inspection
  • Plating thickness and roughness check

Customization Options

  • Dimensions to your straightening machine
  • Hardness and layer depth matched to the duty
  • Plated or unplated surface
  • Matched sets for one machine

Use Guide

  • Install rolls as a set so support is even along the barrel
  • Record tonnage to plan regrinds before quality drops
  • Inspect for peeling at the barrel edge after overload events
  • Store rolls oiled and horizontally supported

How It Compares

How these rolls compare with lower specification rolls.

Surface hardened rolls with a thin caseA deep integral hardened layer allows more regrinds before the roll is scrap.
Unplated rollsChrome plating lowers friction and protects the strip surface during long runs.
Generic replacement rollsNeck and barrel geometry is optimised for strength and impact toughness rather than copied by eye.
FAQ

Precision Leveling Line Rolls FAQ

What makes a levelling roll fail early?

Usually a shallow hardened layer or uneven hardness. The surface peels, the profile changes and flatness drifts. A deep integral hardened layer with uniform distribution is the fix.

Can you produce to our machine drawing?

Yes. Send the drawing or a sample roll with the machine model and position and we make to those dimensions.

Are the rolls chrome plated?

The standard build is hard chrome plated at around 0.05 mm. Unplated rolls can be supplied where your process requires it.

How many regrinds will we get?

That depends on the drawing and the regrind allowance it leaves. We confirm the usable allowance with the quotation.

Do you supply the matching intermediate and back up rolls?

Yes, the complete roll system can be produced together so diameters and hardness are consistent.

What is needed to quote?

Roll drawing or sample, machine type, strip width and material, and the quantity per set.
