Roll Coaters For Galvanizing and Colour Coating Lines

Finishing equipment that applies paint or passivation solution evenly across the strip surface.

Coating weight that drifts across the width or between coils shows up on the finished panel. Roll pressure has to be measured, not guessed.

Who Buys Roll Coaters

Who specifies a coater.

  • Galvanizing lines adding or replacing a passivation station
  • Colour coating line operators
  • Project teams building a new prepainted steel line
  • Plants widening their strip programme
  • Uneven coating weight across the width
  • Coating defects from unstable roll pressure
  • Slow colour changes holding up the line
  • Corrosion on stored and transported coil

Why Plants Source Roll Coaters From Ascon

Design points.

Measured Roll Pressure

Pressure sensors provide roll pressure feedback and four load cells are configured for the passivation coating rolls.

Quick Opening Top Head

The top side coating head has a synchronised quick opening mechanism for access, cleaning and colour change.

Off Strip Applicator Clearance

Front and back applicator rolls run with a slight off strip contact, which improves coating application and protects the surface.

Application Scenarios

Configurations by line.

Galvanizing Lines

Vertical type coaters applying trivalent chrome passivation for corrosion protection.

Colour Coating Lines

Horizontal, vertical or winding type for primer and finish coat stations.

Wide Strip Processing

Strip up to 2200 mm wide and 3 mm thick at up to 260 m/min.

FAQ

Roll Coaters Buying Questions

Which configuration suits a galvanizing line?

The vertical type is generally used in galvanizing lines. All three types, horizontal, vertical and winding, are suitable for colour coating lines.

What strip range is covered?

Width 450-2200 mm, thickness 0.15-3 mm and operating speed 70-260 m/min.

How is coating pressure controlled?

Hydraulic cylinders drive the front coating head with pressure sensor feedback, and four load cells are configured on the passivation coating rolls.

What coating does the passivation coater apply?

A thin film of a trivalent chrome compound on the plate surface to protect it against corrosion.

Do you supply the coating rolls afterwards?

Yes, applicator and pick up rolls can be supplied as spares to the same drawing.

Can it be integrated with our paint supply system?

Yes. Tell us the chemistry and supply arrangement and we design the interface accordingly.
