The Cover Decides Access
Manhole shape is not cosmetic. It decides whether an operator can reach inside to inspect, and whether an inspection becomes a confined space exercise.
- Round covers suit flat and dished heads and are the simplest to seal
- Oval covers give usable access through a narrow shell
- Rectangular covers give the largest opening where the head allows
- Pressure rated covers are required where the vessel works above atmospheric

Pressure Rating Is Not Optional
A cover that fits the opening is not necessarily rated for the vessel. If the tank operates above atmospheric pressure, the cover has to be a pressure rated design and it forms part of the vessel documentation.
State working and design pressure when ordering, and mention vacuum duty explicitly because it changes the design.

Spray Devices Do The Cleaning
A fixed spray ball is the main cleaning component in most vessels: it distributes cleaning solution across the shell so the CIP cycle reaches every surface. Rotating and jet devices are used where soil is heavy or the vessel is large.
Spray balls are the main components for cleaning tanks and vessels including storage tanks, CIP tanks and collecting trucks, and they need flow and pressure to work, not just a connection.

Coverage Depends On Placement
A spray ball positioned off centre leaves shadows behind agitator shafts, baffles and nozzles. Check coverage against the internals, not against an empty shell.
Where there are internals, more than one device is often cheaper than a longer cleaning cycle for the life of the vessel.
Gaskets Fail Before Anything Else
Cover gaskets see product, hot caustic and acid in turn. Specify the elastomer against the whole cycle, not just the product, and keep spares on site.
When a cover starts weeping after cleaning, the gasket is the first thing to check and the cheapest thing to replace.
