Choosing A Two-Component Gun By Mix Ratio

The ratio is built into the gun's linkage, so a 1:1 gun cannot dispense a 1:4 product. Match the gun to the cartridge, every time.

Two-component products cure by chemistry, and the chemistry assumes a ratio. Get the ratio wrong and the product either stays soft or goes off too fast, and in the case of a structural anchor there is nothing visible to tell the installer that anything is wrong. This is the one dispensing decision where there is no room to improvise.

The Ratio Is Mechanical

In a dual-component gun, two push rods are driven from one linkage. The geometry of that linkage sets the proportion, which is why the ratio appears in the model name rather than in a setting. A 1:1 gun cannot be adjusted to 1:4 and should never be substituted for one.

Why The Drive Ratios Are So High

A static mixing nozzle adds significant resistance, on top of an epoxy that is already stiff. Ratios of 43:1 to 50:1 in this range are what make a full cartridge dispensable by hand. Compare that with 18:1 to 27:1 on a single-component sealant gun and the difference in the job is obvious.

The JS8615-2 and JS8615-3 add a linkage labour-saving device on top of the ratio, which is how a 45:1 gun stays usable through a full pack rather than only through the easy first third.

Plastic Or Welded Steel

Welded steel, as on JS8615-2 and JS8615-3, carries the highest loads. JS8615-3's 500 KG tolerance is the highest figure in our whole catalogue.
Reinforced plastic, as on JS8612-A and JS8612-B, is lighter and cheaper but still carries three reinforced steel supports whose job is to stop the rod slipping under load.
Both constructions use a thickened or powdered-metallurgy plunger, because the plunger is where a dual-component gun normally fails.

The Anchoring Case Is Different

JS8610 is the only 1:4 gun in the range and it exists for post-installed rebar and anchor bolts. Two extrusion rods driven together hold the proportion, the frame is welded, the push rod is thickened, and the front handle is die-cast aluminium with a wave profile so the grip stays secure overhead where the operator cannot see the tool.

If a specification requires a dispenser approved by the resin manufacturer, our guns do not carry that approval and we will say so. Raise it before you order rather than after.

A Short Specification Checklist

Get the mix ratio from the cartridge label, not from memory.
Match the body construction to how hard the tool will be used.
Check the nozzle thread against the resin brand you stock.
Confirm the drive ratio is high enough for the product with a mixer fitted.
Order spare plungers and rods with the guns, because this is the range that wears them.

Can a 1:1 gun be adjusted to another ratio?

No. The ratio is fixed by the linkage geometry. Using a 1:1 gun on a 1:4 product would dispense the wrong proportion with nothing visible to warn the operator.

Which gun for epoxy tile grout?

Most epoxy tile grouts are 1:1. JS8612-B for a light tool, JS8612-A at 250 KG, or the welded steel JS8615-2 and JS8615-3 for continuous heavy use.

Is there a powered alternative for grouting large areas?
