KMD406-New is a radial drive-axle truck tyre designed for trucks that operate across mixed surfaces, including paved highways, gravel haul roads, construction sites, and quarry access routes. The tread pattern prioritizes grip and stability under load rather than rolling efficiency, with a thick sidewall to resist impacts and bruises from curbs, rocks and uneven terrain.

What KMD406-New Is Built For
KMD406-New is a radial drive-axle truck tyre designed for trucks that operate across mixed surfaces, including paved highways, gravel haul roads, construction sites, and quarry access routes. The tread pattern prioritizes grip and stability under load rather than rolling efficiency, with a thick sidewall to resist impacts and bruises from curbs, rocks and uneven terrain. Stone rejection grooves prevent aggregate from lodging in the tread base, reducing the risk of casing damage. The tyre carries both M+S and 3PMSF markings, allowing year-round use in winter conditions without seasonal changeover. It is available in three sizes: 13R22.5 18PR, 315/80R22.5 18PR, and 315/80R22.5 20PR, covering most 6x4 and 8x4 drive axles in heavy-duty transport and off-road service.
Manufacturer Feature Claims
- Suitable for Drive Axle of Trucks Under All Kinds of Working Conditions
- Thick sidewall design protects against sidewall impacts and bruises
- Stone rejection design protects groove bottom from stone puncture
- Lasting grip and stability,with M+S and 3PMSF marking
Key Benefits
- Thick sidewall construction resists impacts and bruises from unsealed roads and curbs
- Stone rejection groove design prevents trapped aggregate from damaging the casing
- M+S and 3PMSF markings allow year-round use in winter conditions without seasonal changeover
- Three size and ply combinations cover most 6x4 and 8x4 drive axles in mixed-duty applications
- Load index up to 156/150 K carries 4000 kg single at 875 kPa on the 13R22.5 fitment
Problems It Solves
- Highway drive tyres fail early on unsealed roads because the sidewall is built for kerb contact, not rock impact
- Stones lodged in groove bottoms drill through to the belt and cause casing loss before the tread is worn out
- Running two drive patterns for summer and winter doubles stock and doubles fitting labour
- Deep-lug off-road drive tyres grip better in mud but wear quickly and run noisy on the paved part of a mixed route
Who It Is For
- Tyre distributors supplying construction and quarry fleets in mixed-surface markets
- Fleet engineers replacing drive-axle tyres that fail due to sidewall damage rather than tread wear
- Importers who need one drive pattern that covers both winter-marked and general on-off duty
- Mining and civil contractors buying tyres by the container for a captive fleet
Application Scenarios
- Dump trucks and tipper trucks running loaded from quarry face to asphalt plant and back empty
- Concrete mixers accessing construction sites via unsurfaced access roads
- Timber and agricultural haulage on gravel feeder roads with a highway leg at each end
- Municipal and utility fleets operating through snow-covered regions without seasonal tyre change
- Mining support vehicles that spend part of the shift on graded haul roads and part on tarmac
Technical Features
- Drive-axle block pattern designed for traction under load across all working conditions
- Reinforced sidewall gauge to absorb lateral impact and bruising on unsealed surfaces
- Stone rejection profile in the groove bottom to eject trapped aggregate under deflection
- Radial casing construction with 21.0 mm norm tread depth across all listed sizes
- Severe snow service certified, carrying both M+S and the 3PMSF alpine symbol

Where This Pattern Wins and Where It Does Not
Compared With Long-haul drive tyres such as the KMD403 series
KMD406-New gives up rolling resistance and highway mileage to survive unsealed roads; on pure motorway work a long-haul drive pattern will last longer per millimetre
Compared With Dedicated off-road drive tyres
A deep-lug off-road pattern grips better in mud but wears faster and runs noisier on the paved leg of a mixed route
Compared With Separate summer and winter drive tyres
The 3PMSF marking removes the seasonal changeover, but a dedicated winter drive tyre still has the edge on packed snow
Use Guide
- Match ply rating to your actual axle load, not to the heaviest tyre available - overspecifying costs money and rides hard
- Check the standard rim listed against your wheel: 9.00 for the 315/80R22.5 sizes, 9.75 for 13R22.5
- Inflate to the pressure shown for your load in the size table; dual and single fitment pressures differ
- Rotate drive positions before irregular wear sets in, particularly on fleets running heavy one-way loads
- Inspect groove bottoms for lodged stone after every quarry cycle to protect the casing for retreading
KMD406-New Buying Questions
What is the minimum order quantity?
We load by full container. A 40HQ of 13R22.5 or 315/80R22.5 typically fills at container weight rather than volume, so the practical minimum is one container. Mixed loads across sizes and patterns are accepted.
What is the lead time?
It depends on whether the size is in stock at the plant or has to be produced. We confirm current availability with the plant at the time of quotation rather than quoting a standard figure.
Which sizes are available?
13R22.5 18PR, 315/80R22.5 18PR, and 315/80R22.5 20PR. Full load index, rim and pressure data for each is in the size table on this page.
Is this tyre legal for winter use?
It carries both the M+S and the 3PMSF alpine markings, which is the marking most European winter regulations require. Confirm your own national rule before ordering.
Can you supply DOT or ECE marked tyres?
Marking requirements vary by destination. Tell us the import market and we confirm what marking the plant can supply on that size before you place the order.
What warranty do you give?
One year against manufacturing defect on all tyres we supply, with claims handled by us directly. Cargo transportation insurance is provided on the shipment itself.
Can you ship a mixed container with other patterns?
Yes. Most of our customers load one container across several patterns and sizes, which is the main reason to buy through us rather than from a single plant.
