Set of hardened screw pump rotors in a packing crate

Screw Pump Rotor Series

D, 2L6 and 2L8 series rotors

Set of hardened screw pump rotors in a packing crate
Screw Pump Rotor Series — supplied within the high alloy parts process family.
Product Overview

What This Part Is And Why It Is Made This Way

A screw pump rotor wears against an elastomer stator, so the helical profile and the surface hardness together decide how long the pump holds its flow. A rotor that is dimensionally correct but soft will still fail early.

Rotors are produced by shell moulding, ground, welded, machined, quenched and polished. D series, 2L6 series, 2L8 series and rotors customised to drawing can be supplied.

Key Benefits

What You Get From This Route

Benefit 01

Full route from casting through quenching to polishing under one supplier.

Benefit 02

Annealed to 20-35 HRC for machining, then quenched at about 1020 °C to 59-63 HRC.

Benefit 03

Helical profile and arc surface roughness inspected as specified items.

Application Scenarios

  • Progressive cavity pumps in wastewater plants
  • Slurry and sludge transfer pumps
  • Food and chemical process pumps
  • Dosing and metering pump rotors

Who It Is For

  • Pump manufacturers
  • Plants replacing worn rotors on installed pumps
  • Distributors supplying pump spares

Technical Features

  • Product series D, 2L6, 2L8 and drawing customised rotors
  • Process: shell moulding, grinding, welding, machining, quenching, polishing, inspection and packing
  • Heat treatment: annealed 20-35 HRC then quenched to 59-63 HRC
  • Inspection: head appearance, casting deformation, key helical diameter and arc roughness
Problems It Solves

What Buyers Run Into Without This Specification

  • Rotor hardness is quoted but never verified and wear life collapses.
  • The helical profile drifts and pump flow falls below rating.
  • Surface finish on the arc is rough and the stator wears prematurely.

Manufacturing And Quality Control

How The Part Is Made And Checked

  • Inspection — Dimensions, flatness, assembly clearance, 3D scanning, RT, PT, hardness, chemical composition and tensile testing.
  • Material Control — Chemical analysis on each melt, sampling from the product body and third party testing for special elements.
  • Heat Treatment — Rotors are annealed to 20-35 HRC before machining, then quenched at about 1020 °C to 59-63 HRC.

Quality management is based on ISO 9001 and covers supplier management, raw material inspection, production process control and final inspection. Inspection results are archived and traceable.

Customisation And Comparison

Options And Alternatives

Parts are produced to the customer drawing rather than to a fixed catalogue item, so material grade, machining scope, surface treatment and packing are all specified per order. Machining, dimensional control, surface treatment and necessary pre-assembly can be added to the same supply route.

Where another process family would suit the part better — for example a forging in place of a casting for a shock loaded connector — that comparison is raised during drawing review rather than after tooling is committed.

Use Guide

How To Specify This Part

Quote the pump series and the stator it works with, or send the rotor drawing. Confirm the required final hardness — the route anneals for machining and then quenches to 59-63 HRC, and stating the target avoids a rotor that machines easily but wears fast.

  • Send the drawing with material, quantity, quality standard and target delivery date.
  • State the inspection class and the zones it applies to, rather than a general note.
  • Confirm the packing requirement and the lifting equipment available at the destination.
