Heat resistant furnace grate component with finned surface

Furnace Grate Components

Grate sections for biomass combustion

Heat resistant furnace grate component with finned surface
Furnace Grate Components — supplied within the high alloy parts process family.
Product Overview

What This Part Is And Why It Is Made This Way

The grate is where fuel burns and ash is separated, so it takes both the highest temperature and the most abrasion in the furnace. Fin geometry and alloy work together: the fins control airflow, the alloy controls how long they survive.

Grate components for biomass furnaces are cast in heat resistant grades and finished to the drawing dimensions that determine fit within the grate frame.

Key Benefits

What You Get From This Route

Benefit 01

Fin geometry reproduced consistently so airflow stays as designed.

Benefit 02

Heat resistant alloys rated for 1050 °C to 1150 °C typical maximum service.

Benefit 03

Dimensional control on the features that fit the grate frame.

Application Scenarios

  • Biomass furnace grate sections
  • Pellet boiler grate plates
  • Small incinerator grate components
  • Combustion air distribution plates

Who It Is For

  • Biomass boiler OEMs
  • Plants replacing burnt grate sections
  • Contractors carrying out boiler refurbishment

Technical Features

  • Heat resistant grades 1.4777 / 1.4776 / 1.4823 / 1.4855
  • Lost wax, lost foam and shell moulding routes
  • Dimensional control on frame fitting features
  • Typical service around 1050 °C - 1150 °C
Problems It Solves

What Buyers Run Into Without This Specification

  • Fins burn back and air distribution across the bed becomes uneven.
  • Replacement plates do not sit flat in the existing frame.
  • Different suppliers deliver different alloys into the same grate.

Manufacturing And Quality Control

How The Part Is Made And Checked

  • Inspection — Dimensions, flatness, assembly clearance, 3D scanning, RT, PT, hardness, chemical composition and tensile testing.
  • Material Control — Chemical analysis on each melt, sampling from the product body and third party testing for special elements.
  • Heat Treatment — Rotors are annealed to 20-35 HRC before machining, then quenched at about 1020 °C to 59-63 HRC.

Quality management is based on ISO 9001 and covers supplier management, raw material inspection, production process control and final inspection. Inspection results are archived and traceable.

Customisation And Comparison

Options And Alternatives

Parts are produced to the customer drawing rather than to a fixed catalogue item, so material grade, machining scope, surface treatment and packing are all specified per order. Machining, dimensional control, surface treatment and necessary pre-assembly can be added to the same supply route.

Where another process family would suit the part better — for example a forging in place of a casting for a shock loaded connector — that comparison is raised during drawing review rather than after tooling is committed.

Use Guide

How To Specify This Part

Provide the grate frame dimensions as well as the plate drawing. Fit within the frame is what decides whether a replacement plate can be installed during a short shutdown, and it is the detail most often missing from an enquiry.

  • Send the drawing with material, quantity, quality standard and target delivery date.
  • State the inspection class and the zones it applies to, rather than a general note.
  • Confirm the packing requirement and the lifting equipment available at the destination.

FAQ

Furnace Grate Components — Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match grate plates to an existing furnace?

Parts are produced to the customer drawing. Please supply the plate drawing together with the frame dimensions so the fitting features can be confirmed.

Which casting process is used for grate plates?

Shell moulding, lost wax and lost foam casting are all used, selected according to the part geometry and the quantity.

What do you need to prepare a quotation?

Drawings, material, quantity, quality standard and target delivery date.

Which inspection is included?

The inspection scope is agreed during drawing review. Rotors are annealed to 20-35 HRC before machining, then quenched at about 1020 °C to 59-63 HRC.
