Converting a Worn Metal Part to Ceramic

The Route From Enquiry to Delivery

1. 1. Failure Mode

   Abrasion, corrosion, galling and thermal damage each point to a different ceramic. The worn part usually tells us which one it is.

2. 2. Geometry Review

   Sharp internal corners, thin unsupported sections and interference fits are redesigned before quoting, because ceramic does not yield the way steel does.

3. 3. Body Selection

   Silicon carbide for abrasion with heat, zirconia for impact and slender sections, alumina for thermal and dielectric duty in generous sections.

4. 4. Fit and Mounting

   Press fits are replaced by shrink, clamp or bonded mounting so the ceramic is loaded in compression rather than tension.

5. 5. Trial Parts

   A small trial quantity goes into the machine before any volume commitment, starting at 1 to 10 pieces depending on the part.

6. 6. Volume Supply

   Once the trial runs through a full maintenance interval, the part moves to scheduled production with inspection to your drawing.
