Refractory Alumina Ceramic Tubes for Furnace Duty
Work tubes thermocouple sheaths and element supports to 1650 degrees C
Inside a furnace the tube has two jobs at once: keep the atmosphere away from what is inside it, and keep its shape while doing so. Alumina ceramic tubes at 3.85 g/cm3 and Mohs grade 9 hold up to a maximum use temperature of 1650 degrees C and stay inert against the corrosive atmospheres found in thermal power and heat treatment plant. Tubes are supplied to your bore, wall and length.
Key Benefits
- Maximum use temperature of 1650 degrees C covers most kiln and furnace duty
- Density 3.85 g/cm3 gives a gas tight body for protection tube work
- Mohs grade 9 hardness resists the abrasion of loading and unloading work
- Electrically insulating, so the same tube can sheath a thermocouple or an element
- Made to your dimension and performance requirement rather than a stock length
Problems It Solves
- Metal sheaths that scale and fail in an oxidising furnace atmosphere
- Thermocouple readings drifting because the sheath is contaminating the junction
- Element supports sagging at temperature and shorting against the furnace wall
Who It Is For
- Furnace and kiln builders specifying tube sets
- Laboratory and heat treatment plants replacing failed protection tubes
- Thermal power maintenance buyers working in corrosive high temperature service
Application Scenarios
Kiln furniture and furnace work tubes
Vacuum furnace components
Heating element supports and electrical insulators
Temperature measurement and thermocouple protection

Comparison With Other Ceramics
Alumina is the general purpose refractory tube material. Where the atmosphere is strongly reducing or the abrasion is severe, silicon carbide is the alternative; where the tube has to be brazed into a metal flange, ask about a metallized alumina version.
Use Guide
- Ramp temperature slowly on first firing to avoid thermal shock at the closed end
- Support a long horizontal tube at intervals so it is not loaded in bending when hot
- Do not clamp a hot tube directly against metal; allow for expansion
