Ceramic Blades

Precision Zirconia ZrO2 Ceramic Blades

Non-magnetic slitting blades that hold an edge against abrasive web

A steel slitting blade dulls fastest on exactly the materials that pay best: filled films, glass loaded tape, fibre and foil laminates. Zirconia blades attack that problem from the material side. At 6.0 g/cm3 with 800 MPa flexural strength and Mohs hardness 8.2, the edge stays sharp far longer than steel, and the blade is non-magnetic, corrosion resistant and inert, which matters in food and medical converting.

  • Density6.0 g/cm3
  • Mohs hardness8.2

Key Benefits

  • Hardness 8.2 on the Mohs scale holds the cutting edge on abrasive web
  • 800 MPa flexural strength keeps a thin blade from snapping in the holder
  • Non-magnetic, so the blade does not attract ferrous debris onto the cut line
  • Corrosion resistant and inert for food, medical and chemical converting
  • Minimum order quantity of 10 pieces for trials before committing to a line set

Problems It Solves

  • Frequent blade changes on abrasive or filled materials
  • Metal pickup and contamination on food or medical product lines
  • Edge corrosion on blades used in wet or chemical environments

Who It Is For

  • Converters whose downtime is dominated by blade changes
  • Food and medical equipment makers avoiding metal contamination
  • Machine builders specifying a blade set for a new line

Application Scenarios

Slitting and converting lines for film, tape and laminate

Ceramic cutters in packaging and food equipment

Cutting tools where a non-magnetic edge is required

Certifications

No third party certification documents are published for this product. Every shipment is inspected to your drawing with an inspection report issued. Certification status is TBC and confirmed on request.

Customization Options

  • Blade outline, bore and edge angle to your drawing
  • Straight, circular and profiled blades
  • Trial quantity from 10 pieces before a full line set

Comparison With Other Ceramics

Zirconia is the tougher blade ceramic and is the right choice for thin sections and interrupted cuts. Silicon nitride is used where the blade runs hot or the duty is heavier, since it is the black, higher temperature body.

Use Guide

  • Set the blade holder so the edge is not loaded sideways against the anvil
  • Do not use a ceramic blade to cut against a hardened steel anvil without checking the overlap
  • Store blades in the shipped trays; edge chipping in the toolroom is the usual cause of early failure

Precision Zirconia ZrO2 Ceramic Blade FAQ

What is the minimum order quantity?

10 pieces, which is intended to let you trial the blade before committing to a line set.

How hard is the blade?

Mohs hardness 8.2 at a density of 6.0 g/cm3, with 800 MPa flexural strength.

Can you make a blade to our own profile?

Yes. Send the drawing with the outline, bore and edge angle.

Is the blade magnetic?

No. Zirconia is non-magnetic, which is part of why it is used where ferrous debris is a problem.

What is the sample lead time?

Samples are delivered in 4 to 7 working days.

Do you guarantee the product?

Yes. Products are inspected according to your drawing and an inspection report is issued.
