Metallized Alumina Ceramic Rings for Brazed Assemblies
Mo Mn metallized and plated rings ready to braze to metal
Ceramic does not braze to metal on its own, so the joint has to be engineered into the part. These rings carry a molybdenum manganese metallized layer of 25 plus or minus 10 microns with a nickel plate of 2 to 10 microns, giving a brazeable surface with an average pin pull strength of 4200 kgf/cm2 measured on a 3.0 mm diameter pin. Silver, copper and gold plating are also available, and the ceramic body can be 95% or 96% alumina, AlN or BeO.
Key Benefits
- Mo Mn metallization at 25 plus or minus 10 microns gives a consistent brazeable surface
- Nickel plate of 2 to 10 microns protects the metallized layer before brazing
- Average pin pull strength of 4200 kgf/cm2 on a 3.0 mm pin
- Plating available in Ni, Cu, Au and Ag to suit your braze alloy
- Metallization and brazing can both be done here, so the joint is not split across two suppliers
Problems It Solves
- Hermetic joints leaking because the metallization thickness varies between lots
- Assemblies that cannot be sealed because the ceramic will not wet with braze alloy
- Split responsibility between a ceramic supplier and a brazing house when a joint fails
Who It Is For
- Designers of hermetic feedthroughs and sealed housings
- Power equipment makers requiring insulated brazed joints
- Buyers who want the metallized ceramic and the brazed sub-assembly from one source
Application Scenarios
Electrical transmission and distribution assemblies
Feedthroughs and sealed housings in the electronics industry
Solid oxide fuel cell assemblies
Automobile and textile machinery components requiring ceramic to metal joints

Quality Control
- Metallization and plating thickness checked against the 25 +/-10 um and 2-10 um windows
- Pull strength verified against the 4200 kgf/cm2 average figure
- Inspection report issued to your drawing on request
Certifications
No third party certification documents are published for this product. Every shipment is inspected to your drawing with an inspection report issued. Certification status is TBC and confirmed on request.
Customization Options
- Ring size and metallization pattern to your drawing
- Plating selected from Ni, Cu, Au or Ag to suit your braze alloy
- Metallization and brazing supplied as a finished sub-assembly
Comparison With Other Ceramics
Plain alumina is cheaper but cannot be brazed, so it suits clamped or bonded joints only. Metallized alumina is the choice whenever a hermetic or structural ceramic to metal joint is required, and AlN or BeO bodies are used where the joint also has to move heat.
Use Guide
- Tell us the braze alloy so the plating is matched to it
- Mark the metallized band position and width on the drawing, not just the ring dimensions
- Keep plated parts sealed until brazing; oxidised nickel wets poorly
