Engine Rebuilding Workshops

Engine rebuilding workshops recondition blocks heads crankshafts and valves to a geometry the engine will hold for a full service life. XAIMC supplies the boring honing grinding surfacing and testing machines those workshops run.

Pain Points

What Goes Wrong in This Work

  • A bore that is not round or not straight passes visual inspection and fails at 20,000 km
  • Valve seats cut off the guide centreline burn valves and bring the head back under warranty
  • Warped decks resurfaced by hand leave head gasket failures that look like a gasket problem
  • Cracks found after assembly waste every hour already spent on the block
  • One skilled operator becomes a single point of failure for the whole shop's quality

What the Workshop Actually Needs

  • Machines that hold geometry without relying on operator feel
  • A machine range that covers both passenger car and commercial vehicle components
  • Pressure testing before assembly rather than after
  • Tooling and spares available from the same supplier as the machine
Workflow

The Process These Machines Support

Strip and clean

Ultrasonic cleaning of components before any measurement, because measuring a dirty part measures the dirt

Inspect and pressure test

Cylinder head and block pressure testing and vacuum testing to find cracks before machining time is spent

Bore and hone

Vertical and air-floating boring to size, then honing to the final bore finish and crosshatch

Surface

Grinding and milling decks flat on block and head surfacing machines

Valve work

Seat and guide cutting on manual digital or CNC machines, then valve refacing

Crank and rod

Crankshaft journal grinding and con-rod bushing boring back to standard clearances

Verify

Bore gauges micrometers and dial indicators to confirm every dimension before assembly

Delivery

How We Supply It

  • Machines can be bought individually or as a line, in the sequence the shop's workload justifies
  • Consolidated shipment so a full rebuild line arrives in one container
  • Standard tooling supplied with each machine and additional tooling quoted against your bore and seat sizes

FAQ

Engine Rebuilding Workshops Questions

What is the minimum set of machines to start an engine rebuilding shop?

Realistically a boring machine, a surfacing machine and measuring equipment. Honing, valve seat and crank grinding follow as the work comes in. We will quote a starting set against the engines you intend to take on.

Can you supply machines for truck and bus engines?

Yes. Several models have long versions for commercial cylinder heads and blocks. Send us the largest block and head dimensions you need to machine.

Do I need CNC valve seat machines or will manual do?

Manual and digital display machines are fine at low volume. CNC pays for itself once head volume is high enough that operator-to-operator variation is costing you rework.
