A cleaning laser is a Class 4 source. Treated as one, it is one of the safer processes in the building.
The beam. Industrial cleaning lasers at 1064 nm are Class 4: the direct and reflected beam is an eye hazard, and the wavelength is invisible. Every machine ships with wavelength-matched goggles, and they are not optional. Reflective substrates need particular care because scatter, not the direct beam, is the usual exposure route.
Compared with what laser cleaning replaces, the ambient risks drop substantially: significantly reduced dust, fumes and noise against blasting, and no solvent vapour or hazardous waste against chemical stripping. That is a real occupational health gain, not a marketing line.
Cleaning vaporises the contaminant, and whatever was on the surface — lead-containing paint, marine coatings, oils — is now airborne particulate. Extraction at the head and appropriate filtration are part of a correctly installed system, especially indoors.
Fixed installations should be enclosed or screened with interlocks. Our cabinet series is built for that kind of installation; handheld portable work relies on controlled areas, signage and trained operators instead.
