What This Part Does On The Machine
A warp knitting machine forms every loop with three elements working against the needle: the guide lays the yarn across it, the sinker holds the fabric down while the needle rises, and the tongue closes the hook so the old loop can be cast off. On modern machines these elements are not fitted singly but cast into short assemblies that bolt onto the bar, so a worn section is changed as one block.
Because the three elements meet at the loop, a fault in one shows up as the same defect as a fault in the others. Streaks, dropped stitches and press-off usually mean the assembly has lost its setting, is bent, or has worn a groove where the yarn runs.
