Machine Application

Tricot And High Speed Machines

A high speed tricot machine gets its speed from a short needle stroke, and a short stroke is only possible because the needle is a compound needle with a separate closing element. That design decision drives the whole spare parts list.

What Goes Wrong

  • Stitches dropping only at full speed and nowhere else.
  • Needles scored from the inside by a worn closing element.
  • Uneven loop length across the width after a trick plate has opened up.
  • Replacing needles when the tongue units were the real problem.

Why The Needle And The Tongue Are One System

On a compound needle the hook is open and a separate closing element slides in a groove to shut it. The two are driven independently and they have to meet at exactly the right moment. Wear on either one shifts that moment.

The symptom is characteristic: the machine runs cleanly at low speed and drops stitches at production speed. Before ordering needles, check the closing element for wear and check whether it has scored the needle groove. If it has, both need replacing.

The Parts That Hold The Setting

Speed is unforgiving of lost motion. The trick plate fixes needle spacing, the separators keep the needle line straight across the width, and the guide bar frame bearings decide how much of the drive motion actually reaches the guide.

A machine that has lost its setting shows uneven loop length across the whole width rather than a single line. A single line is one damaged element; a general unevenness is usually the trick plate, the separators or the bar frame.

Lubrication Is A Spare Part

Oil bellows are consumables on a high speed machine. When one splits, oil leaves the drive and lint enters it, and the wear that follows is on parts that cost far more than the bellows did. The one, three and five layer bellows, the bases, the locking rings and the oil cups are all listed on this catalogue.

Tricot And High Speed Machines FAQ

Why does the machine only drop stitches at speed?

That is the usual signature of a hook and closing element that no longer meet at the right moment. Inspect the closing element for wear first.

Do I order the compound needle and the closing element together?

Tell us which you need. They wear at different rates and are quoted separately.

What causes uneven loop length across the whole width?

Usually trick plate or separator wear rather than one damaged element.
