What This Part Does On The Machine
Pattern and jacquard needles are the elements a patterning mechanism acts on. Instead of every guide following the same shog, selected needles are deflected so a single guide bar can produce a figured ground.
The AF series listed on the original site is supplied in a range of lengths, from AF1-70 through to AF3-200, because the needle length has to suit the machine and the depth of the pattern mechanism. Quote the full reference including the length.

The length is fixed by the machine and the pattern mechanism, not by the fabric. Measure the old needle overall and quote the nearest listed length for confirmation.
